Deity of Random - Try 1

We're not getting the AP bonus because we've defied resolutions--no bug.

There is more to it than that. We never got our bonus that I saw the entire time. There was time where I saw a christian temple give a hammer bonus, but no one was under the christian faith at the time, so this has to be a bug yes? And if it is not, what would the point be? If the AP was founded under christianity, and you can't build any christian monasteries because they are obsolete due to the tech tree, you can't spread christianity in the first place. So I ask you, what is the point again in this case?

I simply don't understand this nonsense.

You can get missionaries by running OR.
You don't have to be in the AP religion to get the hammer bonus--you just need the buildings.

For some reason, I simply can not attach the 1858 image to that post. So I am posting it here.

Oops, never mind. The forum is just giving me too many problems right now with attachements. I give up for now. Will try to give it another go tomorrow.

We popped a great merchant in the capital a while back.. With all the merchants we are running that is no surprise. The problem is I wasn't sure what to do with him. There wasn't anything decent to lightbulb at the time, so I decided to keep him for a while and perhaps run a golden age later.

However, I decided finally that it was best to just use him to run a trade-mission. It seems we would need 3 GP's to execute another golden age (and all would have to be different). That was going to be rather chancy and problematic.

Note: Not worth mentioning, but one of our passenger airliners crashed in Greek Territory.
We were allowed access to the crash site.

Time to defy another nuclear ban.
Ouch...So we are at -10 happy penalties now. Grrr! This is getting painful.

In other news, a Hindu wedding special event... bah who cares to hear the rest.

Ohh, and double, no triple ouch!
We get the message that Perc has already launched! WTH? He just hit warp speed on us during the parts build or what? I didn't expect him to take such a big leap so fast, but maybe I was too tired to focus well at that point.

Time to put the metal to the pedal!

1870
I THINK we popped a Great Engineer at this time. Unfortunately they really don't have that much value to us a this point. So I didn't do anything with him just yet, as I was thinking on at least trying to lightbulb something decent in the near future.

-ni

1878
Oh phew.. UN election votes are up for secretary general. I have to chose between Perc or Zara. I will just abstain and this means neither will get enough votes, so I won't have to worry about defying anything AGAIN!

-ni

1882
Nothing much to say, except we are at FRIENDLY status with Zara now, despite running a different religion. That is one thing I like about him, only -3 penalty. However, even with him at friendly status, he refuses to want to trade any techs at all. I know people say on the forums that you can trade with any AI who is at FRIENDLY with you and that it eliminates the WFYABTA, but I assure you that is no the case here, I even have a screen shot to back it up. He also wont even let us attempt to ask for a Defensive Pact, and he wont even so much as trade one of his surplus Sugar resources.

So what do you think, bug or not? The WFYABTA is still kicking in here on us.

BTW... We declare war on Perc finally. And it is time to NUKE, NUKE, NUKE.. NUKE...

And then I did some problems...

One of them was that I should have placed a bunch of transports to move south so I could take Argos on the initial turn of war. However, due to all the micro-management, I missed the big picture and forgot to move some transports into place. Eeeeek! At least I was set up right to hit Corinth and Athens, but I wanted to knock out 3-4 cities in one shot. This would plage me for quite a while.

I basically started with trying to drop walls with spies and then nuking, followed by an amphibious landing into the cities. Unfortunately, we rolled bad with some spies so didn't quite get to drop the walls we wanted. Oh well, set-backs happen. I also ran into more problems. Again I got screwed on repeatedly big favourite battles, and then I had to abandon taking out Mytilene in the same shot as I didn't want to leave holding it a bit weak from a counter. So in the end, I only ended up taking out half the cities in 1 turn than I had originally planned. Not the best of starts, was it?

And now, for some of the good news. In Corinth we did capture:
Mining Inc
United Nations (who cares)
Cristo Redentor (woohoo!!)
1 GE

And from Athens we captured
Creative Constructions
S. Paya
UoS
Pentagon
RocknRoll
Kremlin
Stonehenge
Hanging Gardens
Colossus
A Wat (woohoo)
Chicken Pizza (this one owns!)

Sistine Chapel
Pyramids
4 Gps
1 GG

Oh, and it took 4 screen shots just to capture ALL the buildings inside that one capital.

Not worth a screen shot, but something very strange happened. One of our Airships ended up shooting down a Greek Jet Fighter!

What were the odds in that?

Anyway, war is starting to hurt us bad, so we take advantage of our new spiritual trait and switch to Police State. Unfortunately this causes our tech-pace to hit a dramatic set-back. Oh well, it's either that, or we fall in the red and end up losing a lot of our units just when we need them. We were losing almost 800 gold a turn, even at 0% spending on anything.

We continue nuking around, and FINALLY captured Argos, which should have been done earlier. Note, the effects of global warming are showing allover the place now. And that issue was going to get much worse as time went on. Hehe.

Poor Perc, he had to move his capital, and suddenly loses it again. Not to mention he kept coming at us with mech inf, modern armour, helicopters, and deadly stealth bombers, and I just kept nuking entire stacks of them to nothing.

To say the AI performed terrible, is an understatement. Our most advanced unit was just an infantry.

Re: Zara not tech trading

Its the vassals most likely, it will display his relation with you alone, but his relation for purpose of tech trading, war declarations, etc. is averaged with all your vassals (particularly nonsensical in this case, with your team's globe-spanning empire and a bunch of tiny vassals). Unless the reason was "we have our reasons" (building a wonder from that tech, doesn't go away at Friendly) or "we'd rather win the game" (SS part techs, not sure if true Friendly erases this or not)

1890
One of our highly promoted units. Even though I don't remember using him that much.

By the way, we just got hit by a couple of tactical nukes ourselves. Oufff... But at least perc got hit by many more!

Note: Looks like we have some problems with fallout. And we don't even have the tech yet to do some cleanup on the mess we created. Haha!

Finally! We waltz into the city of Sparta. I've been waiting some time for this.

We gain a lot of goodies including:

Hollywood (woohoo!) We sure could use the happiness
Broadway (wooohoo again!)
Eiffel Tower (Yahoo!!!)
Scotland Yard
1 GE, 2 GP

And suddenly, our gold shoots up through the roof even higher with this.

Note: This battlefield, has gone through so much unleashed-hell in just a few turns, that the terrain looks as thought it's almost uninhabitable anymore. And yet, we will still push (nuke) onwards.

We stole Refrigeration from Perc. I wanted it mainly because it gives +1 water movement, and this will give exactly the perfect travel distance from one of Percs cities to another for a fail-safe invasion.

It ends up as a success, and now that we capture the crappy city of My... we have taken all the cities from Perc's home continent. Though I should have completed this much easier if I hadn't been so incompetent earlier. Lessons learned.

Note: Oh, and I forgot to mention. I did lose one of our hero medic units, with some other loaded transports earlier because I misclicked during a move and they were left out in the open! Argghg. Grrrr... gahhh!!! I used the enter short-cut to exit out of a city view (all that micro management!) And it seems either the screen was lagged, or I misclicked too soon, and the interface assumed I was not exiting a city, but signaling end of turn!

Lesson learned! From now on, I will ONLY use ESC to hotkey out of a city view, NOT the enter key. That was a costly lesson.

And now... We agree to peace with perc. Despite the charts STILL claim he has more power than us, he is willing not just for peace but to also give us 1120 gold for peace. I do not understand why the AI would want to do this if it is so confident of having the upper hand. Someone want to explain this to me? Actually, I assume it must be due to our Kill-Ratio.

I think this is taken from the turn just after. As you can see, the power graphs are always over-rated for the AI, even on deity games. We were so out-numbered and out-gunned, out-dated, etc. and yet we still closed most of the distance pretty quick. And that's including my dumb blunders even!

Also, from that final turn of bloodshed, we popped another great general.

Hmm, I think I remember reading about that before, but forgot about it until now. Looks like what they SHOULD do (besides make a better GUI), is to base that average ALSO on the population of the vassals, in relation to YOUR pop.

We got a little shafted there, but I wont forget this in the future.

Global Warming is now going off all over the place. That's actually a GOOD thing. With our sushi it doesn't affect us much, but the other AI's will end up taking big hits with all their desert tiles. I actually would be HAPPY to see the entire world just all desert right now. How many times do you hear players ask for that!?

BTW, Random event, we pay 115 and receive +3 relations with Ramesses II. Not that we really need to...

We steal Ecology from Perc. I want to scrub some fallout on some of our resource tiles.

-ni

1904
We pop a great scientist. Now this really sucks. If I had held onto our first GM, we would have had 3 different Gps by now, and could run a golden age. Go figure. Anyhow, I didn't know what to do with him, figured lightbulbing was probably best in the near future. We also had Ethanol and Aluminum Co avail, but was there really a point? Hmm.

-ni

1913
We steal superconductors, even though our spy got caught.

-ni

1915
And now, let's get to war again. This time we target Zara. He is already pissed at us for nuking Perc a zillion times, so we have nothing to lose doing this. Also, my transports are trapped from a good set-up vs Perc anyhow, so I decided to plot at my leisure vs Zara here.

BTW, you can't quite see it, but I have a few subs around here with 3 tactics a piece. And then a couple transports. I took this shot just before hitting Zara's capital to show you the devastation I will cause him in just one city attack alone.

Note:: I was actually continuing/re-doing this turn after taking a break the night earlier. I had traded his capital expecting to destroy his whole space-ship project, causing him to start over again as with Perc earlier. Unfortunately it didn't seem to work (bug?) So I quit and decided the next day to just re-do the turn and razz the capital instead to work around this bug. However, later on I would see that it made no difference. I still am not sure if this is a BUG, or just how the silly mechanics works of the game. AGAIN Firaxis has piss-poor explanation on this, and I can't find anyone who ever knows how capturing a capital during a space race is supposed to work!

UPDATE:: I finally found the answere to this issue. If you capture a capital AFTER a launch, then you destroy the whole space-ship. But if you capture a capital during the build of the ship, it has no effect on the parts. Hmmmm....

And, after nuking this island city, we move in for the capture. If you look upwards enough, you can just make out some rubble details from Zara's razzed capital. It was taken by a single marine unit who still stands there.

Note: I placed the mouse- icon here on the remaining city in this area. You can see nice stack of other units in there, and I am about to send the remaining nukes in my subs in this area to get rid of those Zara units too.

As you can see, another nuclear arsenal also hit a city on the other side of the continent. I transported some units in here to try and hold it as well. The fallout explains most of the story.

Almost forgot, I had started the turn off by capturing this city that was a little too close to another one of our cities on a small island.

Hmm, I lost one of those cities I captured for a turn. No problem, ROLL IN THE MODERN ARMOUR. Time to re-capture the holy islam city. Unfortunately there is no shrine in it, but we must push on and continue toppling city after city.

BTW, there is something weird going on here. I noticed we had started a golden age by the icon in the top right. However, I had not initialized any GA so I was puzzled how that could happen. I then scrolled through the logs to see if perhaps one of our vassals popped a GP and started a golden age, confusing the game. I did come across this:

A Japanese soldier has run a great distance to warn of invasion, inspiring defends all across their lands.

I assume this was some sort of random event and caused the GA? I don't know what else could have done this.

Note:On the very next turn, Zara would counter attack through an amphibious invasion with cavalry. Haha!

A few more nukes, and then we roll in a stack of modern armour into Lalibela this turn. Next city on the list will be Ankober.

Note: Just after we hit done, Perc decided to get the jump on us and attack from the other flank.

Just great!

I assume Zara MAY have had something to do with this, but I am not sure.

In fact, we take out another city in the same turn.

Again, all the fallout tiles explain most of the story of what happened here.
