Deity -turn 188 science win - how to do

might get screenshots for midgame and comentary about bo in noncap cities this weekend

My OCC skills are, well, my only skills
honestly there is VERY LIMITED skill needed to play occ, as there are way less actions to do there is way less with which u can fail with.

Gee, thanks.

But yeh, I get that it is generally easier to survive in OCC; the tricky part is managing to stop an AI winning long before you with your extremely limit resources. You could have a near perfect game with no conflict at all and be on track to win by 220 (extremely early for ooc, I think the record is 214) but if you haven't been proactive you'll have Darius or William launch at 205: gg.
Still easier overall though.

As someone who has recorded videos in the past, do you think it would be possible to record one of these? Doesn't have to be a sub 190 win or anything. Just plain winning in a reasonable time-frame (sub 230 I guess?) would be sweet. It's not that I don't believe you or anything, it's just that the Devil is in the details when it comes to civ. You gave us a nice broad overview of the strategy but I don't think that I could show this to my friend and have him beat a game on Deity for example. I've personally gotten better at beating Deity post-patch but I mean I've never managed to win on turn 188 and so I'd really like to see how you approach the game. I realize that decisions are always made game by game but there are always things that you can learn from specific examples. I'm only asking because you do have a youtube channel so it's clear that this was an option at some point and I'm wondering if it still is. I know that a lot of people would love to see some of your gameplay. Again, it's not like I'm trying to call you out or ridicule you if you post a suboptimal game or anything. I'd just really like a see a post-patch game of yours to see some specifics and hopefully pick up a trick or two. Not looking for a perfect game, any Deity win would be fine. Go ahead and pick Mayans, pick a good map, wait for a culture hut, I don't care lol. I don't win on turn 188 and so I'd like to see if there's anything in general that I might be doing poorly. I want to see what you do with your initial luxury sales, how and when you wage wars, how you ally so many CSes (Deity AI seems to crush Barb camps faster than I can), what your BOs are, etc. I don't need to see a perfect game to get a better idea of what you do vs what I do.

are you doing the barbarian/lux/AI trade exploit or did you just spawn in a really fortunate location?

No, he doesn't trade, sign research agreements, wage war or buy science buildings and still wins sub 200. Mystery man.

What I'm asking is whether or not he is using the gold exploit where you let barbarians pillage your resources so you can immediately resell them to the AI.

Does it make a difference in a game, where he sells stuff, DoW's, resells it to another AI and so on? Same kinda impact.

yeah, well, they are both kind of exploits haha.

Done neither :)

Well obviously I got ais gold before I attacked them, but which emperor wouldnt?

Apart the one civ which I chosse to be my current target i tried to keep good relations and even signed some ras

Not criticising, by the way. I know how powerful your gameplay is with micromanaging, changing, re-thinking every single tile. Besides, most money can be ransomed from wars and their peace deals on Deity (thousands $) , so boxing in a single barb to pillage some silk plantation over and over again would be kind of stupid and a waste of time. :)

Awesome work Tommynt! Really impressive.
I have looked through your save and I have some questions if you don't mind:

  • What is your build order to be able to get all those wonders?
  • You say rush theology but what about your resources? mining etc?
  • Are you running production focus to get GL and the Oracle? Do you ever focus on production in early/mid?
  • At about what turns to you plant your four cities?
  • What tiles do you prefer to plant GS?
  • Is maya preferred to Babylon for this?
  • Which artist did you pick for the first year with Maya? GE to instantly build a wonder?
  • If you would play co-op with a friend would you recommend one going tech and the other warmonger? In that case would Babylon or Maya be the best for this? (Map - Pangea, Standard, Deity, 6 AI)

Thank you for your time.

What is your build order to be able to get all those wonders?

In this its been kinda scout scout maya shrine (buy granny) uu uu uu - GL NC - 2 Settler --> wonders

workers get stolen usually from some close ai or from ONE (dont dow/make peace but stay war and catch new builts, by going in from out of sight) nearby CS. I hardly ever do catch from CS as I rather try aly all of close CS - but if no luck with ai worker catching its an alternative.

With lot early units opportunities to catch workers are just there, try be clever and catch multiples from one ai - sometimes they wander around from homeland to new cities or work tiles in 3rd ring -thats your best bets on deity - on other difficulties its easier.

You say rush theology but what about your resources? mining etc?

Well obviously minning tech fits in somewhere in between writing and Philo, its very cheap and fast anyway - same for animal

Are you running production focus to get GL and the Oracle? Do you ever focus on production in early/mid?

I allways run production focus, everywhere, but make sure to have my cities grow by "fixing" food tiles ...

At about what turns to you plant your four cities?

rest of cities should go up staright after NC is built, I never build ciites past turn 50-60

U can also do 1 or 2 cities before NC and buy libraries there (waiting to finish hard build takes too long for me)

What tiles do you prefer to plant GS?

depends .. no hills, river if "enough" grow tiles are there if not just some grassland tile

Is maya preferred to Babylon for this?

For me yes, maya is just a very fun and same time effective civ, but bab is good too

Which artist did you pick for the first year with Maya? GE to instantly build a wonder?

totaly depends ..
Often scientist is a good idea, in this I should have picked a engineer for CI - I missed it by triyng to hardbuild as far as I remember and its kind of my choise n1 wonder
Prophet is often 2nd or 3rd choise.
But this desicion is part of the fun of maya

puh, best for coop is proly - I donnu ...
yeah sure u can try maya + f.e. France who goes liberty city spams and warmongers.

just as u want to ... never tried "coop" - but I do think in end both players should have some army to sandwich some ai(s).

Thanks for your quick reply.

The information above states that you have finished GL, NC, building 2 settlers and placed those 2 settlers by turn 60? Have I understood it correctly?

Very impressed tommy

It seems a bit far reaching to give this as a template, most of us will not be able to replicate it... :mischief:

As i was asking myself the same question. ^^^

Replicating this will have the same feeling than doing a fast lap contest against Sebastian Vettel on the Nuerburgring

dont remember exactly - but kind of - yes.
Starting gl at like turn 17 (speeded with a early pop giving pot in 8 insetad 10 and the maya uu and both gl and NC in about 14 turns mean both are done in turn 45 - but i think i was even faster.

Think i hardbuilt only 1 settler and bought 2 more (land was just really good offering lot res to sell and settled at least one right on other lux to sell)

its more about the ideas - stealing workers, being very active in early tries to aly CS, expanding fast, using maya effective, using war to boost science not just "to kill" and so on.

I agree that sub turn 200 wins arent easy to replicate.
But using these ideas should give everybody a good chance on dominating games at least at immortal lvl.
