Delete posts

It is also very confusing if people delete their thoughts later, after you already began to reply to them.

Also, if you could delete your own post, you could delete a thread you started, and ALL the other posts in it.
However, just about every forum that I've seen where you're able to delete your own posts only allows it when it's the last post of the thread. Of course, maybe VB doesn't have this feature.

That is still proof... Yes they can do that, but what if the person decides not to delete there post after that? A mod could easily see what you tried to do.
OK, now you're confusing me. ;) What post? If the person made it up, there is no post to delete, and the person who made up the quote still wouldn't get caught, because there's a chance that the person being quoted really did say that, and then deleted his post. That is, unless we have the ability to delete our own posts only when they're the last ones in the thread, like I said, or if moderators can somehow see all posts, regardless of whether they've been deleted or not. :hmm:

Just did a little test and confirmed that deleting the first post of a thread deletes the whole thread.

That's why we don't allow posters to delete their own posts.

I do wish I had the power to delete my own posts, I can't believe that there isn't a way of locking down the initial post. I know that if you edit a post before anyone responds it doesn't show the edit flag on the bottom- possibly we could tie deleting to that?

I tuned in thinking that this was a thread about "why are mods deleting my posts?" I can see editing over it if it is offensive, but utterly deleting it is pretty sad. I've had entire threads I've started deleted with eight pages behind them because someone was troubled by my first post.

Deleting would allow very quick forum cleaning, when servers and things get tough after CIV releases, etc.

TF, It would be good to kill of all those defunct closed threads, and give the poster the chance to get rid of a spam poll, etc.

Sounds scary. :ack: If we operated like that, I'd rather have a mod delete the RIGHT posts/threads than have a user decide what threads they think should be deleted or not. :p

I agree.

And why should we need deleting at all? Closing and editing provide enough possiblities to get rid of things that have to go.

I don't want to search for threads or posts I have "just seen a minute ago" all the time. I've seen (or rather not) enough of that in other forums...
