Demo only playing with directx9

Hi.
Just loaded the demo and tried to play in dx10/11 but just get a black screen. When I exited it said I'd been playing for 7 minutes.
It has loaded through the dx9 option.
Confused as I just bought a nice, new, shiny PC good enough to play final fantasy XIV on.
Got an I7 950 and HD5970.
Am I doing something wrong?

I dunno, Loads fine for me on a i5 with a mobility radeon HD5650. (highest settings as well, runs smoothly)

However I did get a black screen when I tried to adjust the AA settings.. screen returned to normal after a few seconds though, with the AA off again.

It didn't work in me either, but once I updated DirectX, it started to work.

Asus P6X58D premium motherboard
6GB ram
Asus HD5970 graphics card
Windows 7 64 bit


Just tried to upgrade directx, but it says I have the newest version.
Tried to upgrade video drivers twice, but it's making me go through steam and PC locked up both times.
PC only a week old.

Edit.....just locked up a third time trying to update graphics drivers.....all since loading steam. I think they updated a few days ago when I used the disc that came with the card though.
Think I'll just use dx9 for now and see if it's different with the retail release.
