demo realease steam only?

The whole situation's slightly bizarre.

I've already preloaded the "deluxe" edition from Steam

But next Tuesday I'll probably download a demo from Steam so I can fool around with it for three days before I can unlock the full version I've already downloaded :hammer2:

I understand all the reasons why, but still -when you step back and take a look at it... it's kind of insane.

Same here. It's weird, yet it shouldn't be an issue since Steam will treat the demo as a different product. And you'll be able to uninstall it when the full game is released.

And technically speaking we'll only have to fool around with the demo for 2 days and 7 hours, as the NA release time is 10AM PDT, which is 5PM GMT. So is not that bad:)

Yeah - and I'm not that grumpy about it because I won't have much time to play until the weekend anyway, so it will be more just spending some time getting used to the UI and looking at the Civopedia etc.

At least I'll have something Civ-like to look at on my screen so I don't feel completely left out when all the Norteamericanos are raving about it :)

So would it be a wise idea to install the steam client already so i can
immediately start downloading next tuesday?

Will the demo be available in the UK too on the 21st?

I would say yes - install whatever can as early as you can to avoid problems or delays. You'll want to set up your steam account and all that so you're ready to go on Tuesday I would think.

Title says it all, will the demo be realeased only via steam or other
ways too?

Not necessarily, some companies offer a direct download from their website also, but since Civ5 is steamworks, you will need Steam to run the demo, so you may as well use Steam to download.

ahh thats exactly what i ment, so no use to download from a gamers website then i guess..

Let me see if I'm reading this right.
The demo release is 9-21.
The North American full game release is also 9-21.

You guys are from some crazy third world places like England and have a later full version release date, so will have to make due with the demo for a while.

Is that right?

If so, ha-ha.

I don't see any reason why it would be released anywhere other than Steam, anyone even slightly interested in playing the game will have to do so on Steam, so why would anyone want to get the demo elsewhere.

P.s its 21/9 or 21st of September, or September 21'st, but never 9-21, so, haha.

Ok, maybe I'm an idiot, but I don't see a "download demo" button anywhere on the Steam page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/8930/. I won't be able to DL the full game just yet, so the demo will have to tide me over for a while longer, but I still want to make sure it's pre-installed and ready to go on the 21st. I don't need to actually purchase the game to DL the demo, right? Or is the stand-alone demo just not up yet? Thanks for the help.

anybody remember when we just went to the computer store and bought a game, brought it home and played it?

the demo won't be released until 9/21, therefore you won't be able to download it before then.

I did that last week. In fact, I'll be doing that next week with Civ 5 as well. You don't *have* to buy it online. You can in fact buy a disc version of it.
