Democracy Succession Game

Noldodan, I forgot to mention in my last post that there is a horde of barbs NE/E of Susa...you might want to consider bringing back the warrior that is exploring in those parts. Maybe switching Per to a spear to get some more defensive units, as well with all the barbs in our neck of the jungle.

Well, I didn't see them anywhere. Guess they attacked the Aztecs. :D

Turn 1 - Science rate moved down to 50%, giving a surplus of 8 and keeping Writing being discovered in 1 turn.

Turn 2 - Established embassy with Iroquois for 35 gold, discovered that Salamanca just began building the Oracle this turn. Science rate set at 80%, giving us Philosophy in 12 turns. Popped hut near America, got Literature!

Turn 3 - Persepolis went into civil disorder. Oops! :(

Turn 4 - Persepolis built Worker, production changed to Settler, to be built in 4 turns.

Turn 5 - Discovered southern coast.

Turn 6 - Paragardae builds Worker, changed production to Spearman for Settler. Built road connecting Susa to the rest of the Empire.

Turn 7 - Susa builds Warrior, production changed to Spearman for defense.

Turn 8 - Nothing special.

Turn 9 - Persepolis builds Settler, production changed to Library, to be completed in 7 turns.

Turn 10 - The Americans declared war on us, for absolutely no reason, captured a Worker and disbanded it!

Turn 11 - Pasagardae builds Spearman, begins building another. Destroyed American Warrior at the cost of a Spearman. Science rate set to 30%, giving us +8 g.

Turn 12 - Susa builds Spearman, production changed to Worker. Discovered Philosophy, changed to Mathematics, to be discovered in 15 turns.

Turn 13 - Persepolis builds Library, changed production to Settler. Mathematics is now going to be discovered in 10 turns, with no surplus.

Turn 14 - Contacted by Bablyon, traded contact with the Arabs and Iron Working for contact with the Arabs and 30 gold. I know, it was better for them, but it’s worth it for good relations. Zululand declares war on the Iroquois! Contacted Ottomans, traded contact with the Zulu for 20 gold. Contacted Aztecs, traded contact with the Ottomans and the Zulu for 30 gold.

Turn 15 - Destroyed barb camp.

Turn 16 - Susa builds Worker, production changed to Library. Founded Arbela near Iron, production set to Spearman.

Turn 17 - Pasagardae builds Spearman, changes production to Temple.

Turn 18 - Persepolis builds Settler, production changed to Spearman. Contacted America, got peace for Philosophy.

Turn 19 - The Americans are building the Pyramids!

Turn 20 - The Ottomans are building the Pyramids and the Arabs are building the Oracle! Persepolis builds Spearman, production changed to Barracks. Science rate set to 30%, giving us +3 g. And that’s as far as I’m allowed to go. ;)

Bootstoots

I accept your nomination Despot.

I looked at the save and noticed that both Babylon and Iroquios have workers that we can buy. I think that we should take advantage of that. We are going to need plenty of them to make our land usable. I have created somewhat of a dotmap for us to go by for creating our next few cities. I think the one by Susa is first priority since there is already a settler over there. Then the two close to Persepolis starting with the one furthest west since it gives us a second horse source.

If we can make Susa into our settler factory hopefully we can settle locations quick enough hopefully we can reach the dyes by Arbela and Silks east of Arbela before the Americans. I'm not sure how quickly we can build east to reach the furs. We might be able to get pretty far south due to the Zulus and Iroquios war going on.

I meant Persepolis into producing settlers not Susa. I think we should switch Susa off of Library and probably making Spears and Workers.

i think the dot near susa should be moved 1 square to the SE, that way we can chop that jungle to hel with rax or whatever we build, and we wont have huge overlap

gnomes, yes 1 se is actually better. Thanks for looking it over.

I propose a change to the nomination/election process so that the game could move at a more rapid clip. bootstoots, since you started this SG I will leave this suggestion with you...

how about if we each vote for who we would like to play next and the person with the most votes wins. In case of a tie the person who played previously would make the decision. Does that sound good? This way we don't have nominations and elections. If the person elected cannot play then he could pick the next player.

That sounds like a good idea. However, I think we need to make sure that no person can serve consecutive terms (to prevent one person from dominating the game) and we need to have a rule that would make so that no player could vote for themselves (with four "candidates" running, it would not be good if they all voted for themselves and the previous Designated Player decided all the elections). I think we should discuss this and I will take a poll to approve it, if the discussion proves mainly positive. The current nomination/election cycle will still go on as usual, and the elections have now officially begun between Lord_all_Mighty and me. BTW, I will have enough time tomorrow to play the game.

ok sounds good. Yes, I agree that the same person can not play twice in a row. I think all of us will be in agreement with that. Most of our nominations have been for people who haven't had a chance to play yet anyways.

Since you have enough time tomorrow I will cast my vote for you.

I cast my vote for Bootstoots. In other news, I was actually planning on placing that settler one SE of that dot.

I see that nobody else has voted recently. I'll vote for myself to finish the election. I will probably post a save sometime tomorrow morning.

I'll join this if we start nominations as soon as the previous person is elected and gets the save. so we would be nominating while the person plays the game.

e.g. lets say Mr x wins the election. When he says he has downloaded the save, The nominations start. Elections start when the save returns, but no sooner than 24hrs. This way it should only take 48 hours for every cycle.

I have completed the allotted 20 turns. In the first turn of this, war was started, and we entered our GA. The turn log is as follows:
Preturn- nothing occurrs. The opponent turn was also devoid of anything of importance.
Turn 1- Mathematics is discovered. Our settler moved to the tile with the horses. During the opponent turn, Lincoln demands Mathematics as a tribute. We reject this outrageous demand, and war breaks out.
Turn 2- We move two warriors toward America, one toward Chicago and the other toward Philadelphia. We built an embassy with the Zulu and signed a military alliance with them against America. Antioch is founded over the horse resource.
Turn 3- We attack Chicago with a lone warrior and fail. The road connecting Arbela was completed, giving us iron. Our warrior outside Philadelphia was killed by an enemy archer.
Turn 4- Persepolis goes into civil disorder, I make an entertainer. An American spearman approaches Arbela. Iroquois and Zululand signed a peace treaty.
Turn 5- Persepolis restores order and an Immortal is started in production there. I moved a warrior into Arab territory. An American spearman heads toward our iron.
Turn 6- Pasargardae builds immortals, Susa built a library and starts building a settler. The American spearman went a different direction after I protected the iron.
Turn 7- I move a warrior onto a hill in Arabia.
Turn 8- The warrior in Arabia goes to neutral territory, we move immortals to Arbela.
Turn 9- Persepolis built an immortal, a warrior started moving toward America (a very long distance away), and the warrior around Arabia moves near Baghdad. The Arabs start building the Colossus.
Turn 10- I attack the American Spearman with an immortal, who turned out to actually be mortal and lost. The spearman disconnects the road to Arbela and hence the iron.
Turn 11- An immortal lost another battle with the spearman and the wounded spearman retreats to the jungle outside Persian territory.
Turn 12- I move a settler near Pasargardae. Map Making is discovered, and I purchase the Babylonian world map for philosophy and mathematics.
Turn 13- An immortal is built and sent toward the spearman.
Turn 14- The third time was a charm for our Immortals, who killed the spearman and triggered a Golden Age! Our science slider is moved to 80% with the new income. The Settler outside Pasargardae is moved to Persepolis. Two Zulu warriors are seen several turns outside Chicago.
Turn 15- A horseman is started in Persepolis, and construction on a road to reconnect Arbela begins. The Zulu build the Oracle.
Turn 16- The Great Library is started in Persepolis. Two immortals were built. A Zulu warrior attacks an American warrior and wins.
Turn 17- An immortal and a settler set out for a hill with Iron and Arbela is reconnected. An American archer attacks and kills one of the two Zulu warriors. The other warrior kills the archer.
Turn 18- A horseman is built in Antioch and kills a barbarian horseman. A Persian warrior close to Chicago continues to follow the Zulu force, consisting now of one warrior.
Turn 19- A horseman is moved to Arbela, and a settler to Antioch. I trade with the Iroquois for their world map. The settler and immortal reach the iron. The Arabs start the Great Library.
Turn 20- Tarsus is founded on the hill with iron. Our warrior is three turns from Chicago.

The savegame can be found here.

Nominations are open again. GBM, I think we could go even faster than that. What if we began nominations as soon as the save was posted? Nominations would be finished, like before, after two were accepted and elections would begin immediately after the nominations were concluded. If the DP misses the 24 hour deadline, the next elected DP would take over. This is up for discussion and I will change the rules if the discussion is mainly positive.
