Demogames

Demogames are a simulated Democratic nation within the realms of a Civilization II or III game.

Last I checked the Civ3 Demogame was the Fanatikans; they run a nation in the game as if it were a real democratic country, with provinces, a President, Governors, Mayors, etc. etc.

I tried it, it didn't really turn out to be for me.

Here is Chieftess' description from an announcement up in Civ3:

The Demogame is like a huge succession game where many users (called citizens) discuss and vote on what to do next. Each term, one player (the 'designated player', or president) is elected to actually play the game. The Demogame also allows you to be any six of the advisors. The posistions don't stop there. There's the judiciary (Judge Advocate, Public Defender and the Chief Justice), along with governors for each province, or region of cities. There are currently 24 provinces in this demogame. You can sign up here, in the Citizen Registry.

The current demogame is being played with Vanilla Civ3 v1.29f. Even if you're not the best player, or just want to refine your skills in one area, the demogame is a great place to see strategies and ask questions about why we're doing things a certain way in the game. There is also a huge storyline in the Demogame RPG, which is loosely based off of the demogame.

Even if you don't have a posistion, you can help out in other ways. Examples are helping department leaders with different department related tasks (i.e., seeing how many of each city improvements the nation has), or join one of the 'sponsered offices', such as the Cartographic Office, or the History Office.

The Demogame also has turnchats, which are listed in the main Demogame forum. The president creates a thread for the demogame each turn, such as "Turn Chat - 1495 A.D. - Wednesday, March 26 (1:00 PM EST, 6:00 PM GMT)". In this thread, you will find the game saves, instructions for the designated player, and at the end of the turn chat, the chat log and end save of what went on during those turns. On the front page, you will also find many threads on what the demogame is.

:hmm: I've always thought about joining the Demogame, but I don't think I'd have enough time to get too involved in it....

Unless, you are running a government position, you don't really need that much time. The one for Civ3 is almost over, then we will start another one, so there wouldn't being any cathcing up to do.

The Civ 2 demogame has just started it's third installment.

For lack of a better term, the Civ 2 demogame is much more 'simple' than the Civ 3 game. We basically have one active game thread and a few discussion threads, with a couple election threads posted every month.

You can participate at whatever level you want in either game. If you want to only stop by and vote in polls, you can. If you want to join the ongoing discussions, you can. If you want to run for a position, you can. It's up to you.

OK, thanks! Maybe I'll join the Civ3 Demogame III. :)

The next one is going to be most likely Civ3 PTW...

Also... You don't really need that much time.... Just look at the differant threads every once and awhile and post something about it... We've had MAJOR problems with the lack of people in the game.

I doubt it, Strider. Vanilla civ is probably the way to go.

Honestly, though, Democracy Games are fun. I've gotten buried in three here, and am working on an another demogame concept in Apolyton (gasp!).

Unless you want to join the Multi-Site Demogame, one doesn't need to commit very much time to it. Just an occasional comment and vote is all that is really needed for active particpate.

Octavian is right. It is not going to be PTW.;)

If I understood well, it is a sort of NES but only with one player and some "advisors". Must be boring for them...
Does everyone has access to the game ?

Just a question, why not PTW? Because of the patch? Some will have 1.14 and others with 1.21?

It's more like a succession game bloated in bueracracy. :)

Tons of discussions, tons of polls, and tons of PIs when something goes wrong or isn't done fast enough (like a lack of workers for instance. ;)). PI = Public Investigation = Total Chaos in the Demogame.

If you hate Red Tape (Like me!) don't get involved. All it is is like during the time when the turn is actually played is a "turn chat" that takes place in the chatroom. During this "TC" a long list of stats and other borng descriptions are displayed, and the occasinal "spot poll" happens.. *Yawn* But the RPG can be fun at times. :mischief:
