I just had America ask me to denounce the Ottomans. After I said I wasn't interested, Washington told me I had shown my true colours and promptly denounced me.

I have been playing Civ5 lots lately and this is the first time I have ever seen this request in any of my games.

My question to the forums is, has anyone else seen this request before, or was this maybe something snuck in during the last hotfix?

i saw this request before the patch but it is pretty rare. The opposite of this is:

1. You denounce B.
2. Then A denounce B.
3. Then A come to your screen and say "let us teach them with denouncement" but since you did it before AI it is just the AI being happy with you.
4. B then come and say "oh hell no you two are in the same league"

AI can ask you for extra luxury or denouncing that if you don't do you get diplo hit. Only asking for declare war and you decline seem to not do anything.

I've never seen it in my own games. The only LP I ever saw an AI request a denouncement was in the link below. It's a 7 month old game, so I don't think it's new - just rare. My guess would be it's only possible from the civs with high "needy" flavors. If you watch the video you'll see Bismarck popped up three times in about ten minutes asking for free marble, a research agreement, and then a request the player denounce Rome.

I had it happen once. Not only should it happen more often, you should be able to request it, imo.

I assumed when you proposed a deal without offering anything in return, that was the equivalent. I could be wrong. If that is what it is, I agree that making such a request actually work occasionally would be a good idea.

They will never accept a deal without receiving anything in return, at least in my experience. Has anyone encountered otherwise?

I've had the same experience with Inca denouncing me when I declined to denounce Spain. Both have been long trading partners. I had a declaration of friendship with Inca though, so that may have been the reason behind the sudden denouncement on me.

I've done it on using 'DEMAND' option, but that isn't obviously a friendly move, but a weak or afraid civ has accepted my requests.

I've seen it and gave into Japan's request to denounce Germany. Germany instantly went from Friendly to Hostile...and then Japan denounced me. I got played!

It's getting to the point where I don't want to be Friends with any AI. The most annoying move of theirs is when they ask you for a resources that you haven't had time to shop.

that happens a lot to me lol. those stupid moron AI's should know better than ask me to backstab my friends. if a civ ask me to backstab a friend, I normally go for a full blooded kill.

If you really want to stir up a peck of trouble, try denouncing someone after accepting the friendship offer. Hilarious.....

Oh, you'd better have a decent army handy first.
