Design a civ using known Civ VII mechanics

I thought it was more interesting having a unique Great Person than possibly having another generic Army or Naval Commander. What is your idea for a Civilian UU?

@Bonyduck Campersang already suggested the name "Millet" and I just forgot to change it.

I thought of this too, but I figured the palace itself would be inspired by the Topkapi Palace. I also considered one of the Mosques as well, but not sure if Religion isn't going to play a big part in this era too.

Yeah, the Civic names might not have been the best, but I'm fine with any changes on those. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the Ottoman Empire so these are appreciated. I wasn't sure about using "Gunpowder Empire" though because that's not specific to the Ottomans, especially when we have one in the game already confirmed, the Mughals.
On the first point: I was looking at some possibilities for a unit that could either smooth the transition of a city from a conquest to a core type of empire, or one that could serve as a diplomat for those vassal city-states. Possibly a Tımarlı, possibly a Beylerbey. I would prefer for this to be not a great person type CUU but rather one with more generic and pragmatic abilities.

While the Mughals and the Safavids were also described as Gunpowder Empires, this sort of has a different meaning for them. The Safavids were never particularly great at gunpowder (their Tofangchi were nothing special and after the Battle of Çaldıran their adoption of gunpowder was forced but half-hearted) and the Mughals were more focused on artillery than infantry. I would say the Ottomans are the archetypical gunpowder empire, as they were the first of the early adopters and their janissaries and artillery set the tone for the other two.

This would be my number one absolute dream civ! It'll never happen, but it'd be awesome.

i like the culture/science spin on an industrial uk. feels very different from the norm but very in-character. i wouldn’t be a fan of winston churchill though. beyond the fact that his military successes overshadowed major military failures, the fact that he was domestically a mixed bag, and as a colonial ruler downright awful, hes also a little later than the time frame of the rest of the civ (besides the MI6 Agent ig) Disraeli or Gladstone would be more interesting to me, less done-to-death by pop culture, and more appropriate for the vibe you’ve got going on.

hmm cant say im a fan exactly
It's very much inspired by the portrayal of Germany in films like Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, where German archeologists and occultists are seeking an artifact in order to bring them swift military victory in the coming war.
At the same time, I wanted it to be broader than merely just the Third Reich; slightly Nazi-adjacent, like Hydra in the Marvel movies, without being just Nazi Germany
I tried to pick terms that, even if appropriated by the Nazis, had other meanings and references that predated the Nazis.

Lili’uokalani

Born during a tumultuous time for Hawai’i, Lili’uokalani took the throne after years of service as a representative. Faced with rampant infighting and increasing economic pressure from the United States, she led the charge to draft a replacement for the Bayonet Constitution that would restore both voting rights for native Hawaiians and the power of the throne. When the American businessmen-backed opposition led a rebellion too strong for her foreign connections to stop, she dedicated the rest of her life to writings and compositions that would strengthen and preserve the culture of Hawai’i, even without its sovereignty.

Unique Ability

Aloha ‘Oe: +1 Culture and Happiness per Age on Great Works and active Traditions. Declarations of Friendship involving Lili’uokalani have no Influence cost and grant a random free Civic for both parties. Penalties from negative War Support are doubled.

I'm pretty sure there will be no nazi in the game. Modern age Germany is likely to be based on Prussia and if we ever see contemporary age, its version of Germany will be post-WW2, with WW2 itself being the world crisis at the end of the modern age.

While someone with more knowledge on the topic could certainly put together a better-researched concept, I found the history of this civilization really interesting, and since it's a no-brainer as a predecessor to Songhai, I figured I'd give designing a Civ for it a shot.

WAGADU - ANTIQUITY AGE CIVILIZATION

I was also thinking of designing a Wagadou civ based on what we know about Civ 7’s mechanics but I was stumped by how information about Wagadou is slightly scarce regarding stuff that is important to know based on the game’s mechanics.

Still however it’s a very interesting civ and a good concept for it you made!

Same for Russia being Tsarist Imperial Russia, and not the Soviet Union.

NAZCA - ANTIQUITY AGE CIVILIZATION

Rising in the deserts and river valleys of modern-day Peru, the Nazca culture excelled at creating textiles and earthworks. Irrigated settlements surrounded the ceremonial site of Cahuachi, which grew in spite of a low residential population due to regular pilgrimages from priests and artisans. Eventually, however, mass flooding scattered the civilization, their symbols left behind in the works in their ruins and their carvings in the desert.

I decided to be a bit more limited regarding unique ability and civic choices as some potential options could also work better for a specific leader such as Usman Dan Fodio or Nana Asma'u

Sokoto - Modern Age Civ
In a time of socio-economic turmoil across West Africa with falling quality of life and encroaching European colonialism emerged the Fulani Jihads which gave rise to many revolutionary figures who sought change in the region and for religious unity. Among those emerged the revolutionary Fulani scholar by the name of Usman dan Fodio who conquered the Hausa Kingdoms, whose descendants would then go on to to forge the largest and most powerful state south of the Sahara at the time, and greatly improving religious education in the region. Unfortunately for the Sokoto Caliphate, the encroaching European colonialism became an inevitable factor that could no longer be avoided where the Caliphate would be partitioned by Britain and Germany in what would become the British Northern Nigeria Protectorate (later merged with the Southern Nigeria Protectorate to form British Nigeria) and German Kamerun. However, this is not where the story ends for the Sokoto Caliphate as with the establishment of the Sokoto Sultanate Council, the rulers of Sokoto would remain as symbolic figures that lead much of Nigeria's Muslim community today.
