Thought I'd post my ideas and some of the developments I have made...My idea is to create a mod set in the modern day world...I mean "MODERN"...Not World War II Modern...Maybe 90's to current year 2011...

This mod is to feature:

-A lot of new units
-New Techs (Most of them are going to be military doctrines)
-A lot of civilizations ( I mean a lot...I plan to simulate the world here...)
-New Unit Upgrades (I'll explain how this type of upgrade is different)
-The mod is divided into theatres of operations/scenarios (Example, You would have a lot of maps to choose from because of no. 3)
-New diplomacy options that simulate real world politics
-Improved AI
-New Terrain
-Proper UN Resolutions and Sanctions ( I'm still tinkering a bit in Python as to how a sanction might work)
-Historic and current events (Maybe add some random ones too)
-Terrorist cells (Maybe implement something similar to white lies black ops mod)

It's pretty ambitious :crazyeye: but work is already on the way and I won't give up on this...
I'm going to need help though...I just need guys to contribute ideas, some info on world politics and military (this includes minor nations)...

Also I need a cool name for the mod :)..."Modern Warfare" is already taken...

Units:90%
Civilizations:100%
Flags:100%
Buttons:100%
Terrain:80%
Techs:50%
Maps/Scenarios:50%
XML: 50%
Python:50%
Overall Completion:70%

Have you ever heard of 'Nations in War', 'Next War Advanced', 'Rise of Mankind', or 'Caveman2Cosmos'? They're all a lot like what you're planning.

I have heard of them...But there are features that makes this different from them...

1)This will only be set in one "Age" or Timeline only...21st century
No futuristic weapons of any kind...No WWII or WWI tech...This is about the world of today...
2)Unit upgrades are different...Researching a tech doesn't change the unit models...They improve the capabilities...In my mod, an F-14 doesn't upgrade into an F-15 or F-16...It upgrades into a better F-14 with increased defense, attack damage...
3)The UN, NATO, ASEAN, EU will all be featured here...Not only will you get to vote for UN Resolutions, you also have to vote in EU, NATO, ASEAN...(depends on the country)
4)You will get to choose from a lot of civs...I mean a lot...Not just the major nations of the world, but some minor ones too...
5)Because maps only allow a few civs, (using 50 civ dll) I divided them into scenarios or theatres of operations...
6)Terrorists...Something along the lines of White Lies Black Ops mod...but different in every way...
7)Events with Leader Elections...I'm not talking about leaderheads...Just a simulated leader...an event with bonuses and penalties, renamed as a leader or government party...

There are more...but for now these are the differences...

Not what I'd usually play, but the "new diplomacy options" caught my interest, as well as the mention of having several multinational bodies with their own voting systems. This could be great, but also sounds pretty difficult, especially if the AI should make sensible use of them. I also like the simulated leader elections. Good luck! :)

When you say "no futuristic weapons of any kind", does this rule out weapons development over the next ten years, such as next gen stealth fighters, antimissile lasers, etc.? Just wondering.
P.S. I'll try to think of a cool name ;)
Edit: How about "New Millenia"?

When I meant no futuristic stuff, I meant no impossible techs and units. There will be 2011 unit prototypes. What won't be included are battlemechs, infantry with some kind of Mark I or whatever type of armor and sci-fi fighters and bombers.

I've been absent here at the forums but work is almost complete. Check overall progress percentage. Beta soon to be released as soon as I get proper permissions for most of the units and mod components I compiled here. Screenshots to be uploaded.

The reason why I made this mod is because when someone makes a "Modern" mod, they seem to include WWI and II. We already have too many WWII stuff. WWI has been overlooked but there is one by snafusmith. I've never seen a mod focus solely on the 90's or the present.

Also, the developers of Civ focused more on the UN and didn't bother to add a competitor like EU and the other multinational organizations.

The diplomacy kinda sucked too. No offense but the Leaderheads always seem to be too nice. I can't feel the tension between relations. For example: "I don't feel like talking to you. Goodbye." WTH?! I feel like fighting in a world domination game against a child in elementary. Better if it was like this: "Your act of aggression towards our nation is unacceptable. You don't have a decent pretext for invasion. Withdraw from our borders and cease this illegal warfare at once. Diplomatic negotiations will resume after your compliance to a withdrawal."

PS. I thought of naming the mod Defcon: Crisis of the Modern World but I'm still waiting for other suggestions.

DEFCON 2012

Let me know how it turns out.

We tried something similar at World 2008. Which became World 2009. And then petered out, mostly due to incompetence on my part.

If you want the files for that, or would like to adapt it, you may want to get in contact with Bahmo if he's still around, as he was still working on it as of spring this year and might be able to help. If he doesn't get back to you, there are some working files on the forum and on SourceForge (I think the forum ones are more up-to-date), which you may find useful.

@GreatLordofPie & G-Max
I chose Defcon because it kinda has a good ring to it. Compels you to try it out.

@NikNaks
Thanks for some additional info. I'll take a look and try some of the stuff out.
