[Development Thread]WW1 Mod: Blood and Iron

Wow, first thanks to everyone who has volunteered their time to help out! I've been working overtime trying to get you pictures and reseach for your 'projects.'

Second, the base of the mod is coming along nicely. I'll post some screenshots later, but the tech tree is starting to get flushed out more with units, buildings, etc.

That sounds good smitty.

What it comes down to is, you just gotta get started. A mod I've been working on for months and months kept getting put off because of real life obligations and my laziness regarding getting into the down and dirty.

Finally I decided that I would work with what I had, put down what was available and that I would be able to fill the holes later; now I just need to add the tech prereqs for buildings and I'll have a completed rough draft for the tech tree.

Sometimes you just gotta jump in head-first and stop making excuses. Seems like you've been doing this :)

Amen Brotha.
That happens to me all the time. This is my list of to-dos:
World of Legends (maybe) - obligated for: 6 months
WWII Gaius mods - obligated for: 4 months (working hard now)
BTS Avatars for Thunderfall- obligated for: 2 months (only did 15 :p)
A Civ Gold Leaderhead- obligated for: 1 month (due in 2 days :mischief:)
The Leaders Mod- obligated for: 4 months (no one's doing anything...)
I think that's it. :hmm:

Yeah, that's pretty much the case. I'm adding in all of the units now, and using the good old firaxis biplane and MarkIV tank as stand-in art. Not ideal, but at least it'll let me start to work on a map and get things moving. Once all of the art gets done, it'll be easy to just go in and modify everything to get them in.

Hey, before you start on the map let me know if you want to have some fun with that and add in extra features to make the world itself a bit more dynamic, even if only in appearance. I've really had quite a bit of fun working with terrain modifications and am this -><- close to getting new plot types working with custom heightmaps per tile. :)

I'm not even close to working on the map - but you can be assured that when I am, I'll let you know!

Woah. Gonna have to release that you will. ;)

DONE! I present the SMS Helgoland:

I'm very happy with the way it turned out - I guess I have to redo the HMS Dreadnought now.
Pfft... now why didn't you just do the Konig class Dreadnought?!?!?!

Hehe... just kidding... upload the thing already!

As for HMS Dreadnought, well Danrell did a FANTASTIC HMS Dreadnought...

French Dreadnought next? How about the Bretagne class?

Actually, he just did a reskin of my mediocre old HMS Dreadnought. Even with the new skin (which made it a ton better), I wouldn't put it in the mod. Man, a I getting picky or WHAT!?

Got an cruisers instead? I'm sick of dreadnoughts - they take forever to skin.

No more Dreadnoughts?

I guess... :(

I thought for sure I could physc you out with those 3D renders... oh well...

I'll dig up a French Armored Cruiser or two from WWI... but you better link-up that Helgoland tonight! ;)

Alright... you're going really obscure here... but I'll see what I can dig-up... the lesser navies and lesser ships (especially this old) get harder to find stuff for, but I'll see what I can do...

In August, 1914, the French Navy had 22 Armored Cruisers on the books... of them, the major classes included:
AMIRAL CHARNER class, GUEYDON class, DUPLEIX class, GLOIRE class, LÉON GAMBETTA class, EDGAR QUINET class

Pictures pending (assuming I can find useable ones).

Okay... Edgar Quinet class armored cruiser, vintage 1907, and one of the best of the war...

More information and pictures here.

Did you click on that bottom link? There were several images there... remember, the smaller ships of lesser-renown navies especially before WWII get harder to find good images of... you're lucky I found these!

I'll dig-up some more... while you're waiting, you can always upload that Helgoland Dreadnought (hint, hint

Snafu... my sources are drying-up on this end... seriously... it's not looking good for getting much more then this... I would suspect it's going to be similar for other ships from other navies smaller then battleships and dreadnoughts in this time-period... unless I luck-out on someone doing a model of said-ship.
