The thing that bugs me a bout cloth diapers is the precleaning. Usually women will rinse them out in a toilet or something before washing the diapers in a load. Disposable diapers are a must on vacations, with relatives or a baby sitter. After a sitter trys to flush a cloth diaper down the toilet because she didn't want to clean it you make sure baby sitters have disposable diapers to use.

I'm a guy and I clean diapers at least as often as my wife ;)

We have a diaper sprayer which is basically just an accessory hose attachment that installs in 30 seconds. We brought it with us when we were travelling last july and it worked fine. The real trick, though, is that we use diaper liners. They're flushable lengths of paper (think dryer sheet) that keep the mess from coming into direct contact with the cloth. So you just shake it out over the toilet and likely won't even need to use the sprayer at all.

We use disposables overnight and when we go on excursions or to appointments. Cloth diapers involve a lot of bulk which isn't very convenient when travelling by public transit in NYC. If we're driving to visit a friend for the day, we'll stick with cloth.

We've never had a problem with sitters doing something so stupid as to try to flush a cloth diaper. But then again, all of our sitters (except 1) had prior experience with cloth. So maybe we got lucky? :dunno:

Two chores I have always hated are changing diapers and hand washing dishes. I always use a dish washer for the dishes. You can't put babies in a dishwasher. They have cloth diaper services to clean diapers for you but I have never tried that. I prefer to use the house woman.

I hate letting my wife handwash dishes because they're never clean afterwards!

Most landlords in NYC won't allow dishwashers, which is totally bizarre to me since they result in lower water usage (which they pay for) and less food waste down the drain. Whatever, some people just won't see reason even when you bash them over the head with it.

We used a cloth diaper service for the first ~4 months. It was awesome, and I wish we could afford to continue it. But I think it was $35/week. Can't keep that up forever.

If anyone in this bizarre thread is looking to consider Cloth Diapers, Diaperkind has some good informational resources on their website.

Maybe it's because a leaky dishwasher can cause a lot of water damage before the leak is detected.

Never heard of that. I have lived in apartments that didn't allow things like water beds which makes sense with the possibility of water damage.

These thread needs some diaper one liners:

Diapers and politicians should both be changed often and for the same reason.

Condoms are cheaper than diapers.

Life begins and ends in a diaper.

I have a sleeping disorder... it's called children.

little girls say, "Does this diaper make my butt look big?"

When you're a parent it takes longer to get everyone in the car than to actually run the errand.

A boss is like a diaper always on your ass and usually full of...
