Did my leader switch traits?

I got a golden age from a wonder so I decided to switch to republic to get my national stability back on track before the game forces me into something lame like pacifism (I have cities to conquer mind you). Suddenly my leader lost the traits that gives you cheap promotions. Where I got a level 4 archer before I now only get a level 3. My superfanatastic military city used to produce level 6 melee now it's level 4.

What did just happen? I switched back to monarchy to check if that was what caused it, but it wasn't. And I don't know how to check the current status of my leader either.

In the diplomacy adviser, be on the screen where your leader's pic is showing. Hold down shift and mouse over the pic. Move the mouse off and on again, and repeat until you've seen all traits.

Or, mess about with the BUG options. Caveman2Cosmos folder, second column, second entry under Empire Management "Show civilization traits". Mark this. There are many many BUG-options that I consider essential to activate, and this is one of them!

You may have to provide a savegame. But nothing about a civic change should impact the leader's traits...

Sounds much like you switched from mercenary to pacifism civic, although you said you aren't using pacifism perhaps you did accept it by accident.
The -11 xp per unit would explain the lower starting level of units you are producing.

BTW pacifism in golden age is very effective, always do that I`d say.
Build some 10-20 elite units prior to it;
plan the golden age to take place around a time many new civics like pacifism are becoming available to max out the effects of civic change without anarchy.

Golden age is not good for producing units but to catch up/gain tech advantage and being a builder as well as ambitioned specialist birther (trying to produce a nearly never ending golden age by breeding the GP intellingently on and on is a huge challenge)

Or he switched from Military in Education to another like Written or Apprentice. This would de-activate several bldgs and Military boosts.

When I switch to military in this category my XP for my units generally goes from 6-9 at time of build to 16-24. Tremendous boost for Military Ed. Plus it opens up 2 more special bldgs for Mil unit training. Which both (one for Regular mil the other for Mounted) then add faster build times and more XP at a cost of X Gold.

Once I found out how "buffed" your Mil units can become with this Civic I use it now more than Oral or Written until the later ones in this category become available.

No, I didn't switch from mercenary and military education, nor did I do pacifism. I do intend on using pacifism and golden ages together sometime. But right now great people come often enough and they are mostly priests anyway. I get the same amount of experience points, but I get less for it, which is especially sad for my most experienced hero that was getting close to the 76 xp required for next upgrade and now needs to get to over 100 xp for it.

I don't know how to post saved games, but if someone told me how I could do it. Then I'd also ask someone to do some changes with the BUG options that's annyoing me because I can't open those without the game chrashing (the map is really too big for my computer).
