Did my patch install right?

I noticed that in the main screen just after the beginning movie ends that in the lower left corner it shows the version of the game as 1.071.

Does this not update when the patch has been installed? I've installed my 1.16f patch twice to be sure that it actually worked and that number never changed.

Also as I read the patch list at the firaxis site (http://www.ina-support.com/faq/civ3downloads_pc.asp) I noticed that the patch is supposed to only allow one palace being built at one time; however, I always build multiple palaces so that I may switch over to wonders when I discover them. I thought that we weren't supposed to be alble to switch from one building to a wonder and have the resources transfer as well?

Any ideas?

Try to uninstall the patch, then the game. Then reinstall the game and start in once (to make the ini) then turn it off and reinstall the patch.

Well Gramphos, I re-installed and the ini file was created on installation so it was there all along. I'll still try starting up once then closing and install the patch. Just because I don't know what the hell else to do.

Wow, what the hell. It was a successful fix. I got past the Nationalism discovery when I couldn't before.

I uninstalled and re-installed. Then I opened civ 3 then closed. Then I copied the patch (1.16f) to the ...Infrogrames Interactive\Civilization 3\ folder and opened it. I saw the files get updated in the background. The inifile didn't look like it changed. When I opened up Civ 3 after the patch the version number in the lower left corner WAS changed to 1.16f. In the past two installs I did it never displayed the patch upgrade version number. The only thing I did different is that I copied the patch exe to the same folder as the executable.

I was finally able to get past Nationalism. I am so happy.

One thing to note though, I noticed this before too, when I discovered metallurgy as the Persians I got the bonus discovery and then the selection screen popped up and showed the next possible selections only the text read something about me getting the technology warrior code from the germans or something? Oh well as long as I can continue with the game I'm happy. Of course we'll see if I can make it to the end of the game without further incident.

Well, the ini is installed, but I think it misses some entries if you haven't run the game once.
