Digging up RPG

I say we do the following:

1) Make it character based, you create a character upon signing up and pretty much play that character.

2) Players are aloud to create adventures, stories, etc. (within certain limits of course). These can be from a direct result of a decision made in the game itself, or just something that to do with the decisions made in the DG.

3) Managers (or DM's) create stories/adventures that go along with major events in the Demogame. (IE: The Iroquios declare war on us, the DM creates a story lead that allows players to sign up for the "army" and fight some battles.)

4) For what now leave everything that has to do with the bank, stores, etc. out. We can always include it later if there is a high demand for it.

Why not simply do as we want: chaos.

Someone wants to do a character, then let him be.

Someone wants to make a big story, then let it be.

If someone even wants to do a strategic RPG, then let him have the hell that comes with it.

Everything could go in a parallel way without any problem.

well i like both ways if that makes sense, though i think we should have limits i.e. one day fier canadien built his space rocket and decided to go to the moon, the year is 300BC :)

no money... it scares me and has me wake up at 7am on saturday mornings. (for 15 cokes, no less)
as for stories, sure. ive got a lot of odd things i can pull out of stuff involving (f)animutation. and then theres always made up wars like ones over my sig (points down). lets just try for some fun.
and as for the moon @ 300bc- cough:sirjohn:cough
Yatta!
SaaMsan emerges from his hut with a large pointy rock. He hears that there are foreigners around and wonders what they are up to. Could it be war? SaaMsan remembers the wars of the past, before the tribe settled down (and heres where someone creates a back story)
anyone feel like following it up?

Personnaly, I like the way you put it, if it allows for characters and interaction.

I say we try to find out how much interest there is for an RPG first. A poll maybe?

havnt we had polls before but nothing has happened in the end, most of the results have been positive from what i remember but we have stumbled in the final step.

Yeah, but before we've always tried to make it where we need alot of people to help (alot of the time).

no the last time we had a poll about 20 people voted for the story telling aspect, not much has happened since then,

I would rather know that alot of people would like to have an RPG than to discuss it for a long time and then find out that no one is interested.

well the poll is somewhere in the poll forum, if i had broadband id toddle off and get it but i dont so youll have to look for yourself.

There has already been a poll in this DG over the RPG?

yes, there was like 4 options the one that won was the option for story telling and impulsive stuff.

Well, lets get back to idea's and designing then. What does everyone think of my idea?

*Single Character Based

*Story Based

*Player freedom to control character actions during a story (within limits)

*Several SM's (story managers) that create stories that co-align with the demogame decisions or happenings

*Ability to let players submit a story for approval and (if approved) let the player run there own story.

*Ability to let players create and run tournaments etc. by using stats if they want.

it won by a large margin, and that was story telling like demogame 1, so we really need to start thinking about what were going to do next, i.e. are we going to push for a forum or what?

I say we push for a forum, it would be much easier to organize within a forum instead of flooding the citizens forum with it.

Also here's what I'm thinking of for restrictions:

* The current demogame's tech progress is our tech progress. (some exceptions though, like if the DG is researching flight and player may make a story about how they are designing a "flying instrument" etc.")

* Nothing outlandish, your character can not be an elf or dwarf.

* You can not kill other players character, so don't even say that you do.

well yes, flight is maybe getting a bit ahead of ourselves but whatever. i agree with the others but im not sure everyone else will.

I was involved with the CHD (Creative History Department) as a story writer. It was fun, but most of the stories fizzled out quite quickly.

For myself, I had difficulty following the game, composing my story and holding an office at the same time. I tried really hard to post good quality stories that integrated characters from previous post and my own story line.

I think the reason nobody posted to the CHD story lines was the bar was set too high. The stories were long and involved and the casual poster didn't feel comfortable in posting. The rules weren't complicated, but having rules also meant that the casual poster who wasn't familiar with the rules didn't feel comfortable posting.

And also, not everyone can bash out a story at the drop of a hat.

It seemed to me in DG4, the most fun thread was the Knights of the Round table thread. It had a theme that most posters knew (Monty Pythons) and long posts were not implied or needed. IMHO, short posts encourage high participation. The more rules, the less participation. The more shared humor, the more fun. The more people are pushed to iterative creational input, the more fun they will have and the more wild the story will become.

And the higher the participation rate. :D

yes i agree compltetly i may not the only one who is turned off by long hard to read posts so therefore, stories which everyone can become involved in would be much welcomed.

I agree that we want to keep it easy to get into, a few limits as to what you can do (primarily to stop people from running the experience for others). Maybe a quick sign-in and that should be it.
