Diplo for MIA

it looks like MIA has placed two cities (one either coast) that are on the line. So we can build up to their existing towns and be ok. I'll continue to keep an eye on the border and whether or not they encroach. more at 11....

We'll need to be very alert on monitoring that front. Good idea Tubbs.

Let me re-state my question then. Are they trying to buy your team's support? (I'm sure they are.)

<snip>

<snip>

Regarding MIA's support of other teams, I can't say much. MIA's support may be purchased when cost-effective for us, and our support may be withdrawn when no longer profitable. We do not hold grudges, nor do we operate irrationally. Our emotions do not cloud our judgement when negotiating the cost of a deal. If it is in MIA's nest interests to sign a peace treaty with KISS, the we will sign it. If MIA's goals will be achieved sooner and with less cost by waging war, then we will wage war. I hope that satisfies your curiosity ;)

As to KISS's brilliant invasion, we here at MIA are duly impressed with KISS's handling of the international situation. Perfectly timed, we signed the peace with you precisely when you needed us to. Perfectly timed, you caught TNT by complete surprise. We had been suspecting you might have designs on TNT, but we could also see plenty of reasons to not invade at this point. Are you planning on taking this operation to its logical conclusion?

Best,
Peter Grimes

I would just respond that it all depends upon how the Meleets of War bless us or not. Tell them that we would encourage their participation in our "police action."

I think I'm going to let it sit for a bit. I believe that quip about "taking this operation to its logical conclusion" is intended to do one (or both) of the following:
  • Gather intelligence by playing to our arrogance.
  • Goad us into a longer (and costlier) war than we want.

Well said. We don't want to give them any intelligence.

I'd send this in response:
Where we take this operation, or where it takes us we don't know. Logical conclusions aren't what Idiots are known for
And, yes, sit on it for a while ;)

I would respond with their non-response

The Great Meleet has spoken and I agree. All they deserve is idiotic responses that are filled with more disinformation than information.

We could go into full Idiot mode:

:goodjob: I like it!

I would offer one emendation...

Regarding KISS's war intentions, I can't say much. KISS's support may be purchased when costly for us, and our support may be withdrawn when profitable. We do hold grudges, and we operate irrationally. Our emotions do cloud our judgement (but only when alcohol is not available)when negotiating the cost of a deal. If it is in KISS's best interests to sign a peace treaty with TNT, the we will not sign it. If KISS's goals will be achieved sooner and with less cost by waging war, then we will ask for peace. your emandation is an obvious one. I may have overlooked it because I'm drunk ATM

I wasn't aware we had enough intelligence to go around within our team... let alone enough to share! :crazyeye:

Seriously, some of you people have issues... and you're all nuts. And that's coming from someon who used to get paid to jump out of airplanes. :D I have definitely fallen in with the wrong right crowd.

I read, in military HQ-thread, that AK told I would follow up on the KISS-MIA diplo front to discuss what should be done when our current deal expires. I'd love to do that since I've missed exchanging disinformation with fe. What i'd like to have here is some directions on where to push them (MIA).
My guess is they will try to hook up Nutters and go whack us as soon as possible after the peace treaty is over. This is somewhat dependent on how our war campaign ends, but all in all they should be interested in having us out of the way. As I see it we could:
1. Renew alliance with D'nuts and go chase Greeks
2. Renew alliance with MIA and leave Nutters be
3. Renew with both
Somehow we need one or both as allies anyway, and I don't think MIA would like to see us established overseas and then go to war on our side vs. Nutters. That would put us in position for a domination victory.
I figure MIA's plan (if peaceful) is to stay ahead/on par in techs and wait for us to be weakened by war, then outrace us in space.
Just some thoughts...
Oh, and I could pretend there is bad blood flowing within our ranks. Like "the pros have taken over...people are starting to drop out...we are considering elections...anarchy doesn't work anymore...blah, blah".
More thoughts are welcomed.

From Donut's perspective, each of us, MIA and KISS, probably need to be knocked down a notch. I think Donut would probably prefer to watch from the sidelines a MIA/KISS battle but will be more than happy to help finish off TNT beause it's more land.

Some of the things I'd be interested in hearing is what is their current trading position? Are they self researching or teaming with someone? Lux deals? How would they like to win this game? Who they talk to from each team?

The bad blood...I'm not sure what can be extracted from it.

Were Hari Seldon to toss this upgainst the math of psychohistory I'm certain it would add up to ZERO.

So, how can we discern MIA's trading/research/other position?
