I'm interested in organizing a diplogame for fun. War games are fun, but it has its limitations in terms of diplomacy and civ building, which I believe are two key aspects of the game that get left out in ladder games.

Some ideas that I've thought of are as follows:

1) The King's Chamber - maybe meets every 20 turns to discuss world issues, such as war, literacy (tech trading), border disputes, and such. The King's Chamber will have an elected Chairman who will preside over the meeting.

2) Limitation on cities after a certain year, say 2000 BC. After that, civs will be given permission to expand by a certain number of cities as agreed by the King's Chamber.

3) The designated Superpower (i.e. elected Chairman) will have no limitation on city building and will act as the policeman of the world.

4) The objective of the game is to allow for limited wars, more extensive diplomacy, and hopefully a game that will last until the launch of the Alpha Centauri.

5) Gamers will be 7 civs who don't mind long turns (perhaps as long as 7 minutes) and who enjoy civing as much as I do!

Well the idea about the superpower was that it wouldn't take much for an alliance of two warring nations to disrupt the peace and safety of the many states. One of the goals in this game is to have the civs reach at least flight, and perhaps all the way to Alpha Centauri.

Also, I would think it would be a good idea to have betrayals and shadowy alliances in this game. That is, I actively encourage civs to double cross one another in this game of diplomacy. Players who wish to play honorably may do so, but I for one will shed my honor in this type of diplogames and try to get every advantage for my civ using diplomacy.

do you mind if i move this thread to Civ2 Multiplayer? this game as I read it was ment to be for fun and not tournament. I cant support non-tournament games in this thread.

I wouldn't mind playing in it if i had the time and well the connection and processor speed to were it wouldn't lag :(

Isn't it maybe better to try playing different people until you find a bunch of people who all use diplomacy a lot in their games. Call me a rookie but when you put a few people like that together in a game then you are already creating the circumstances in which barbarians who think only in brute force cannot survive and where they must use diplomatic skills to survive and get ahead.

I'd love to play a game with you some time. I am looking for some people to play on a weekly basis in sessions of 4 hours. That's also another way that you give the game a more long-term idea, i think. When you know the game is going to be over in 3 hours, then why would you use a lot of diplomacy? Also people will be people you can't make them out to be something they are not. nor can you make the game into something that it's not. It's the people playing it that will always make the game what it is.

History Of The World 3 has just begun. Who knows, it might be even better than number 2. Read up, and volunteer to sub when the need arises.
