  1. Can anyone tell me strategies and the implications behind the "Don't trade with x" diplomatic option? It appears it means open borders only, and that very shortly after the AI can and often does simply resume open borders again.

It doesn't appear to mean literally not trading anything, though.

    Any good uses for this?
  2. Also, what is the use of having an AI stop a war with another AI? The only reasons I can think of are to prevent them from getting a capitulated vassal, or to prevent them from taking a city I want. Or maybe to prevent them from getting too powerful?

Just curious as to any insights regarding these diplomatic options.

1: They will stop all trading. I think it works the same way as with us - so the player you negotiate an embargo against will refuse to talk to the one you bribe.
Good uses are if you don't want them to travel over another's land in a war etc., to get a resource if they are trading it, to stop their trade routes, or keep planes, boats and missiles in their land without risking them to be killed by a spearman.

2: If they're not in a war, you can bribe them to join your war, to stop other people to take the cities you want from it or stop them from capitulate as you said.

I think it shuts down their trade routes. Not sure how powerful it is except when it is an AP resolution and a whole bunch of civs sign on to it.

Quick note, is it a bug that they don't stop trading, too? I swear they've closed borders but continued trading commodities.

sometimes i want them to be at peace so that they stop hating each other. that way i can trade with one and the other might not resent me for it!
