Hi there

Im thinking about going for my first diplomatic victory in Civilization. But im having trouble about deciding how i should do it. I guess its pretty hard to complete every single quest from the City States. I could also try to build a massive economy and buy every single city state - but than wouldn't be much fun. How do you win a diplomatic vic? Do you know any good strategy guide? :)

Also: Which Civ would you recommend :)

Thanks :)

with Greece, and all you need is few thousands at the right time. Its the easiest win condition by far, and once you play a bit you will simply start ignoring it as option.

Generally a Diplomatic Victory is all about making money. Venice probably is the easiest one to do it with, but any method you can make a ton of money will work as well and thus any of the better civs can do it. A few good Trade Routes late game can usually do this alone, but things like Tithe with a powerful religion can do it as well. Make sure your spies are flipping the city states, go down Freedom for the +4 Influence to city states you trade with, unlock the first state of Commerce, make sure you have Consulates at least, and hit Globalization. Right at the end just send all your spies from the city states over to the Civilizations for the extra delegate.

Generally the AI is extremely poor at stopping a Diplomatic Victory unless they were too warmongery with the city-states and civs early on. You basically just need money at the end to buy off a few select city-states you already don't have.

Playing as Greece also guarantees you don't have to play against him, usually the biggest obstacle to a DV

Venice is nice, but if you want a "normal" civ where you can expand and actually build an army rather than buy one... I highly recommend Portugal (feitoria means unlimited growth/expansion midgame without any worry about happiness) and they still make tons of cash with UA and nau.

This.

Diplo wins are by far the easiest, as the AI still has trouble with keeping up with CSs even when they're sitting on a mountain of gold... except for Alexander. Greece WILL throw all their cash into CSs early and often, will usually keep allied with a lot of them throughout the game, and if you let him run away, by the time the leader votes start coming he'll have like 300+ Influence with each CS (on Deity).
