I have tried clean re-install, repatch and no change

Ralph

Thanks for the suggestion but yes I have tried that and it made no difference.

Ralph

Update your video drivers; that's a very new card and the drivers, even the newest, are maturing. Be deliberate in following the installation instructions at nvidia's driver site.
Clear Civ IV's cache files as well, when you do this.
let us know if it resolves it. Sometimes older saves just don't work with newer or updated installs though.

Have got the latest drivers installed but will try a clean install after clearing Civ's Cache.

I am not looking at aprticualrly old save just ones from a week ago or so!!

The Python Errors I get logged (having switched logging on ) are mainly like this.

Just a wild guess, but I can see you're using the HOF mod. Can you try to load a plain save to see if the problem is with the module or with the basic game?

As someone else said, try deleting the game cache in
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\

Having had the same problem (new games start and run just fine, saves from previous games and games run with mods from the executable directory lose the interface) I am trying to remember how I fixed it. It has nothing to do with graphics drivers.

As I recall there is a conflict with a "Custom Assets" located mod (like Ruff's)and the Mod files associated with the save file I was trying to load.

I first encountered the problem trying to play the scenarios shipped with Warlords with Ruff-hi's mod-pack installed. Renaming the Custom Assets directory with Ruff's python code fixed the problem. Everything ran normally.

So the first step I would take is disabling any "Custom Assets" mod-packs and removing any other non-Firaxis mods from the executable directory Mod folder.

Thanks Bede I will try that tonight as it seems quite plausible as the Error logs are suggesting it is finding something wrong with a couple of the XML files which are associated with both Ruff's and HOF Mod.

Ralph

Well Bede I think you were right and it was a conflict from Ruff His mod, anyway all that matters is it is now solved.
