Display Driver Problem

As of recently, whenever I use my computer, about 20 min. after I start my computer will go black for a second, then turn itself back on displaying this error: "Display Driver nvlddmk (or something similar) has stopped responding and successfully recovered". And this is really starting to bug me. I have never had problems like this before (especially since I just bought my video card like 2-3 months ago). And I have done google searches trying to see if others had the problem, and they have, but way back in 2007. And all the solutions they suggest are 3 years old and don't work any more (i.e. patches and stuff that I'm pretty sure I already have ). Would any you guys know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Have you downloaded the newest drive from the makers site and tried installing that?

Yes I have, I have gone as far as uninstalling and re-installing my video card driver. Didn't help at all.

I wonder if it could be a heat problem? Have you opened up the case and seen if it's dusty in there? maybe take a can of air to the heat sink fins?

Hmmm... if could be the dust/heat, I haven't opened my computer in a while, so I wouldn't be surprised if dust has collected, I'll try this.

I crashed my computer yesterday on purpose, and it wouldn't reboot. Turns out it was choked with dust. When I blew it out, it rebooted fine.

Just cleaned out my computer, and it still hasn't solved the problem. I can tell since I it happened to me again when playing EU3 (it happens most prolifically when playing this game, and I have no idea why, in fact, this game is really the only one it affects regularly, it will happen to me when playing MW2, but only once like every hour or so, not every five minutes like EU3).

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Maybe the original driver went bad (drive error), and the new driver was actually buggy? Perhaps uninstall and reinstall a new copy of the original driver?

E.g. With my older GFX card, I find it useless/deleterious to update beyond a certain version number.

Also make sure you completely clean out the driver. Use something like Driver Sweeper to get rid of any traces of the old video driver.

It could be the driver update, since I never saw this problem until like a week or two after I installed the update.

Ok, I'll try and use the original driver (the one that came with the video card) and see if that helps. BTW that program is free, right?

You should be able to find a free program to do that. Check out Guru3D if you cant find it.
