DLCs

whats the point of making maps for dlc. im making my own maps so im not interested at all for this dlc.. everyone can make maps so why cant they add some other stuff to the game instead..
Actually, there have been several people I've seen asking for the map from Scramble for Africa for normal play, so they are acting on players demand here.

Not just maps, but map scripts.
Still, people can just make them, but they are certainly not for everyone (requires some programming and whatnot). That, and I've rarely seen map scripts mods in the Workshop, now that I think about it... :undecide:

The randomized features that these maps employ have only been available since BNW, so that's probably why.

okey. people like different maps but im not buying a dlc to get a map. so they should add more to it

So these are the new DLCs, just new maps. And I already have maps like Asia or Japan? Besides there are mods that give you certain parts of the world to play on. I will probably get it just to complete my DLC list, but when a Steam sale comes in. Then the price will probably drop to about 1 or 2 euros.

So what's the deal with map "scripts"? No idea what these do or if they are worth buying?

I wont make the call on whether you'll like them or not (we hope you do), but we've done some pretty cool stuff with these.

South America, for example, retains it's true geographic shape, but the inside is randomized, and also includes scripting that generates a random north to south mountain range. South-east Asia retains it's outline, and it's defining mountain range, and randomizes everything else.

Some maps are hill heavy, some mountain heavy, some have persistent terrain (like excessive Tundra in the extreme north on North America, all keeping the character of the continent that they are based on. We've also including some brand new map scripts as well, and most of them come in multiple sizes for different play-styles.

The Earth map is an excellent replacement for the regular Earth map for those that want some random play. It comes with all sizes, retains the land-forms, and is completely random on the inside.

End sales pitch. I just wanted to share. :)

I'm happy, at least so far. I will be getting them and trying them out. Civ5 is one of the few games I play anymore and have several hundreds of hours into it... 5 bucks is nothing. I will drop more than that on caffeine in one day.

This. Generally, a game is regarded as great value if you an hour of gameplay per dollar you play. One game on a new map or with a new civ is 8-20 hours (for $5), depending on game speed, and for the amount that most people around here play, I would think that a new map pack - one that has more replayability than most other maps - is well worth it.

That is actually pretty good, then. I forgot that what this obviously has over custom maps is the endless sizes. Sales pitch worked

I'm wondering what you did with Antarctica? Is it still mostly cold, or does it have Jungles like some crazy Triassic version of it?

This one has a small amount of snow and tundra at the pole, and then radiates outward with plains and grassland. Jungle will be pretty rare, because we would like to image it's still pretty cold.

My name is DemonMaster (hmm, well). I'm week and I'm a civaholic
I first said that this DLC was too hefty in pricing but my addiction got to me. It was only as much as a couple of beers in a pub and I will probably use these mapscripts more than those beers will last. I need help ;)

Oh, right, that's rad. That's totally Cretaceous Antarctica, speaking as a paleontologist :)

I'd still like to see the vanilla scenarios updated to BNW or G&K mechanics & a modern/futuristic scenario using the giant death robot, stealth bomber, xcom, etc; but I'll buy this as soon as I'm home. $5 is lunch or 1.25 gallons of gas. If it funds more patching of Civ and encourages future content, it is money well spent, even if I don't use it (but I think I will).

More or less my reason for buying it. Funding the possibility of more civs.

Hi my Name is Alex and I am a civaholic !

I had to buy this, even I still think it is too expensive ...

Anyway WHY IS THERE NO OPTION for the maps, that we start at the correct place of the chosen country !

PLEASE UPDATE THAT, special for MP games ...
thanks

will TSL be supported on any of these?

I don't know if I'll ever use these scripts, but I'll going to get them just because I might eventually, and then also because I want to support firaxis so we can see the game continue to grow and develop.

Sounds very interesting... Did the natural wonder bug got fixed in this new Earth map? (the bug that caused too few natural wonders on earth maps less than Huge)

Is there any easy way to see how large the maps are as far as tiles? For example, Terra uses a different default setting than normal. I was looking at the standard western Europe and it looked like it may have been different than default as well.
