Hey man. Well, I had a geforce fx 5200 and you can get it to run with more juice by downloading rivatuner and changing the pixel shader to 1.1.

It will also run more smoothly going from 512 RAM to 1 gb

Yeah, the Geforce FX5200 is your card. It's pretty dated, but Civ doesn't require incredible video cards.

Go into your graphics options and turn some of them down. Turn on Single Unit displays, possibly low resolution textures, and definitely disable antialiasing (COMPLETELY useless in Civ IMO)

Also, go into Sound and maybe lower sound quality if you are still running slow.

As stated above, upgrading to a gig of RAM would help a fair bit.

Is there a way to force Pixel shader 1.1 just for one program?

Ok, when you go into Rivatuner click on the second tab in driver settings. Its the directX tab. Then go to the shaders tab and there you can force 1.1 pixel and vertex shaders. Sorry is this is vague im not at my home computer at the moment but its pretty user friendly to navigate.

Hmmmmm, really?? It made my game go from unplayable because of all the lag on screen to acceptable.

Time between turns is a different matter though. Thats mainly CPU dependent. Sorry I wasnt able to help. Just make sure you dont have other crap running and all that other jazz that can slow you down.

Some will say you need a dual core or quad core to run this but I found the 3.4 single core cedar mill to be really good. Of course this was teamed with an 8500gt and 2 gigs ram under windows xp.
