Do I lose resources when I trade them?

If I was to trade an AI say...corn for pig, do I lose that corn resource? Or do we both just gain a new resource?

You lose one of your corns - if you only have 1 corn in your empire, then you will no longer have access to it. The main advantage of trading resources is when you have more than 1 source of something, then you can trade it for something different.

Yep, if you've got loads of corn you might as well trade it for some other resources from the AI's. Be warned though, they are wise to the ways of trading. You cant offer someone a spare corn in exchange for thier only Iron resource, they aint as dumb as they look

It doesn't matter if you have more than one of a resource. You only get the benefits from the first one, all the rest are just surplus.

Nope. Anything past the first resource of any one kind doesn't confer any sort of health/happy bonus.

i have to take another look i think when i traded away hit singles the Happy bonus form the broadcast towers goes down.

Your'e mistaken. Only the first resource is going to have an effect, all the rest are only good for trading.
