Do Old World players also play Civilisation games?

Hello folks

I would wager that must of us were avid Civilisation players before Old World came along. Do you still play these games? Do you find they appeal in a slightly different way to Old World?

Kind regards,
Ita Bear

I'm a long time Civ4 player and modder (who really needs to go back and update/finish my mod). Struggled to enjoy Civ5 and 6, too much of a departure from what makes Civ4 great. Absolutely loving Old World so far, finally a worthy successor to BTS. The Ancient and Classical eras have always been my favourite parts of history so I don't mind the narrower scope. Hugely appreciative of Mac and modding support out of the gate too. Already working on something, just wish I had more time.

Almost the same, huge lover of Civ 4, specially RFC mod and modmods, never could get into Civ 5 except to help Rhye make a new RFC, played Civ 6 quite a bit but got bored with NFP that decreased the appeal of the game for me.

Old World is much much more immersive to me than any Vanilla Civ, because the game helps you to make a storytelling. That is one of the reasons why I love it so much.

I discovered the Civ with civ 2, played civ 3 a lot, then fell in love with civ IV for many years. I don't know how many thousands of hours I spent in Civ IV, its mods and scenarios. Civ 5 never clicked for me, I think I played one game and a half of it when it came out ? It was the last game I ever preordered. I did enjoy Civ VI a lot, I actually think it's a very good game and I've played it a lot until... I found out about OW when it was released in EA. I bought the NFP but I never touched it.
I stopped playing civ 4 a few months after civ 6 came out. I never got back to civ 6 since I got into OW. I will probably try someday, but OW just ticks all the right boxes for me so it's hard to find appeal in other 4Xs at the moment. They all look clumsy and unfinished now.

I played a LOT of Civ IV. Also played a lot of Civ V and a little less with VI. LOVE Old World right now. It has that "one more turn" thing going with me, certainly.

Been a Civ genre player since the original Civ (93 I got my hands on it in Aus). Played "most" (I say most because there is probably 1 civ genre game I haven't played) of the history based civ genre games, including all the Civs, Humankind, and even the basically unknown Destiny from 1996.

Since Civ4 though, I've felt the series and I moved apart from each other, and haven't had that "vibe" that peaked with Civ4 BTS. Old World has that "vibe" in spades.

Yes I have played every civ starting with civ1. But Old World mechanics and feeling is incomparably better than any civ now, it's basically a nail to civ's coffin for me personally. The only thing Civ has on OW is that it spans the entire history not just the old world for when I want a larger scope for a change, but then again so does Humankind so yeah. I can leave giant death robots to 12 year olds now.

Well, I'm going to shake things up then: I never played Civ 4.

Played 1 and 2, then picked the series up again with 5 and 6.

My favourite is actually Civilization: Beyond Earth (if we're not including Alpha Centauri that is).

So no great love for the ancient era or the Civ 4 legacy/nostalgia here. I connect with Old World because I really enjoy events :)

Yeah, the (comparably simple) events with multiple choices to react along with specific, buildings correlated specialists and city flipping with culture pressure etc. were big fun and milestones back then ... :)

I also enjoyed immensely the (moddable) event chains of Sierra's Pharaoh and Last emperor.

I have played each civ, and have many hours invested. I still play Civ Vi quite a bit. To be honest, the game I liked best was Call to Power and it is a shame that the owner won't let it go to someone who will make a newer version. I do like Old World and play quite a bit. I wish there were more maps available. I also like Humankind.

I've played just about every civ iteration they made over the years, call 2 power and that other weird one around the same time, too. I enjoyed 5 and 6's departures, and enjoy 1upt. or rather, i'm anti-SOD, i should say. i like humankind's unit and battle system very much.

the community did a good job w 5's AI, and wish they would release 6's dll so the community could make that game better as well. I don't think they like being showed up honestly. 4 and 5 had a different philosophy towards the community, 4 especially, and i think everyone pushed those games as high as they did.

SOD?

Stack of Doom. The ability to stack multiple units on a single tile/hex, greatly increasing the upper limits of the effective army power you can bring to bear in a conflict (as the size of your army is no longer restricted by space on the map).

Ok, I know what a stack of doom is. It just didn't register on my brain that that was what you were talking about. Thanks.
