Dont get me wrong, I am sure BTS is a wonderful game. But its different enough from vanilla to make this forum (and most of the others) somewhat less useful. Most of the "old timers" have moved to BTS, but there is a whole new crop of "Vanilla only" players, due in part to GameTap having the game on their service.
I dont really see a "vanilla only" forum anywhere though. General has everything, but has mostly gone BTS, and there are dedicated forums to Warlords and BTS, but most of the more generalized forums have evolved into a 94-5-1% BTS/vanilla/warlords boards.
I think a "vanilla discussion/strategy" forum would get a lot of use over the next 6 months or so. I see a lot of comments in various threads where posters qualify their remarks with "I only have vanilla, . . .". Speaking for myself, I have sort of decided not to post my games and such, I dont really want to clutter, and most vanilla related posts are dismissed fairly quickly. Nothing wrong with that, many members have already played vanilla for many months themselves, and they have simply moved on. Games and questions in a vanilla specific forum, however, would only be read in that context, making it much more likely to get active discussions and our own sets of "Play Along" style game narrations and summaries.
Without Civ IV:Complete being available in the states until Summer (projected), there are probably a lot of players, like myself, who are just going to play vanilla until that comes out. In order for a US resident, GameTap subscriber, to get BTS, we would have to buy the core game and the expansion separately. I am sure GameTap people arent the only ones who have vanilla only, either. Heck, there may be BTS owners who prefer vanilla, and would actively participate in a vanilla only forum of some kind.
I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. MODs, feel free to move it if deemed necessary.
