do you get a rep hit if, when you declare war against a civ:

1) you have invisible units in the civ's territory that the civ can't see?

2) you have invisible units in the civ's territory that the civ can see (like if he could see one of your subs with an AEGIS cruiser)?

3) you have hidden nationality units in the civ's territory?

Also, do you get a rep hit if you made peace with a civ and then you sign a mutual protection pact with another civ and the mutual protection pact forces you to declare war on the civ you made peace with (before the 20 turns are up)?

1) My thoughts are No
2) Yes
3) No
4) Yes

definitely, yes.

What about if you pull off a spying mission w/o getting caught?

Thanks for all your answers! :)

What if you sign the mutual protection pact before making peace? So you already are in a mutual protection pact with a civ, say the Sumerians, and you are at war with say the Chinese, and then you decide to make peace with the Chinese and then the Chinese attack the Sumerians (within 20 turns) forcing you to declare war on the Chinese. Would you still get a rep hit? If so, it would seem that you should never make peace with someone if you are in already in a mutual protection pact with someone else.

You'd still get a rep hit for breaking the MPP with the Sumerians, regardless if you re-declare war on the Chinese again.

@ Dachspmg: No, not that I am aware of. If it succeeds, how will anyone know? ;o) How the heck do you pronounce your name, btw?

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that, but you could have made peace with the Chinese without breaking the MPP with the Sumerians since the MPP only kicks in if the Chinese attack you in your or neutral territory. So what would happen in that situation?

If you sign a MPP, another nation is dragged into your war, regardless of who started it, and where it is fought, and you sue for peace with the aggressor, you will take a rep hit.

there is not a rep hit for successful spy missions.

I think the subs thing is a special case because the AI always know where your subs are even if they don't have A Cruisers. They always know where all your units are. I am not sure if there is a rep hit though. As long as you leave when they ask, there is no rep hit.

I find them useful towards the end of the game, and if you know you're going to be able to push through and completely eliminate a civ. Ie, sign it and then draw your buddy in to the fight with you -- then completely obliterate the enemy. It's especially useful if there's only 3 civs left. You destroy one, weaken the other and you come out golden, and able to destroy the final civ at your leisure.

Speaking of rep hits, I'm sure this is a FAQ somewhere, but if I make an alliance with Civ X to attack Civ Y, and then we wipe out Civ Y before 20 turns are up, do I get a rep hit?

Speaking of rep hits, exactly what do I have to do in order for the computer to don't want to sign a deal with me because of bad reputation?
I started a war against the mongols, without even having a ROP with them, but then the other civs didn't trust me because I had "broken the deal with the mongols". I'm pretty sure I didn't have another deal with them either, so how could my reputation be damaged?

Pigalle - if you had any trade agreements with the Mongols, you'll have broken the deal when you declared war. As well (though I'm less sure of this) if the only trade routes between you and another nation you have a trade agreement with is through Mongol territory, you'll break that as well when you declare war and take the hit..

I found out that if you have a trade deal with a civ and that civ gets eliminated by another civ, you get a rep hit! So don't make trade or gpt deals with a civ that is in danger of getting eliminated within 20 turns.

I don't think you can get a rep hit if you don't brake a deal in one way or another. So you don't get a rep hit if you for example refuse to leave a civ's territory unless you had negociated a peace treaty less then 20 turns earlier.

If thats true, its defenitly a bug. You can't break a deal if theres no one to break it with right?
