Do you name your units?
This feature is available from PTW, and I find it a very good idea...
I prefer sending Son of Osiris to the battle then War Chariot, or sinking a caravel with DD Thunderstorm is much better then the simple Destroyer.
Well, I know that the Huge-map player do not have the time to name the units, so I ask the others :)...

I really like this option, but I'm too lazy to name anything expect my ships and UUs... And you?

I name my elites*, and if a unit is especially heroic, like a spear holding off a stack of barbs or something, then he'll get a name, and quite often become an "honor guard" in the capitol.

I don't give a unit a name until it deserves one. I figure it's like my own little meritorious service award or something.

I never bother naming units as a name has no influence on whether the unit would win and I feel it might encourage me to save named units from attacking early in a stack battle so that they don't die...

If a unit does something truly heroic, I'll name it. Those little guys gotta earn their name first though.

Love to name units but like you guys they have to do something to :hatsoff: . All elites get names like Fred's 1st tank division, etc ;) :D .

Units that I rename are.
- Number: transports ships, bombers, and Armies.
- Elite* units with the ML’s name and the year.
- Other ships get named after cities.

Units that did something very important, fought valiantly (had tons of luck hehe...) and mostly TRANSPORTS - it is easy to mess up where you wanted to sent certain troops sometimes.

All Armies get a name, too: The infamous Celtic Liberation Army e.g., or the IX Legion, whatever... ;)

I only name units that create a leader. They get named with a number accumalator to help keep track of haw many leaders Ive had and also the year the leader was created.

I rarely name units and if I do, its in my LAN games against my brother.

For example, I had a few units named...

"10AD"
"1225AD"
"I have knights!"

Was fun messin with him cause in 10AD i had no military force at all.

:D

I name every single one of my units, including my workers. They all have names like Carl, Steve, Phillip, Margret and i make sure they all my units are are on a first name basis with each other.

I name my elites that spawned a leader so that I'll recognize them easier. In some of the Conquests, I'll name units that are guarding the Holy Grail, etc. for the same reason.

Aw isn't that nice :)

I love naming units. It's great seeing the "First Warrior Band" rise up through the eras until they are a modern age infantry or something.

I always name the Elite* units. I usually try to match up the leader they spawn to their name, too. The Riders that created Sun Tzu were named "The Artists of War," for example. When a Knight spawned Peter the Great, I named them "The St. Petersburg Knights". Guess what I named the unit that spawned Lenin?

How do u manage to come out with 400+ names ? And do u grieve when they die ? Normally i only named the unit thats create Leader, The Carrier and Battleship, else too many to name.

Ramius

Sometimes in the Modern Age I'll give my units division and corps designations (like VII/144 Armr Div). Each one gets its own division number, then a corps number based on how they're grouped to indicate that all these units are working together.

I come up with names out of love, Ramius, and when they die, i cry myself to sleep.

Aside from the Elites that generate MGLs, very rarely. Usually only when I have more than one transport in the same port, and I have different missions for them. Such as MI Carrier, MA carrier, Attack North....along those lines. Lately, tho, been playing pangea's, so not much use for carriers. Been using the worker RR rush with bomber support....surprisingly effective.
