I believe many people do mod their games to change certain aspects (like some imbalances/crappy units) to their own liking, thus enhancing their personal civ experience. So, do you do so and what changes did you make to the rules?

Any PtW games I play use the same mods as GOTM. In particular, modding PtW Republic to be the same as C3C Republic.

I play some modpacks, and have made my own changes to the rules, but I usually just use the default rules.

I made my own scenario in wich I have shared the ancient time in to two, and I took out the modern era, its really cool.

Lol weird, the modern era is the one which I enjoy the most. Pity it comes too late in the game to have much impact on the game. :(

I played the default rules once or twice just to get a feel of the game and then switched over to modded games. I ALWAYS get rid of railroads! Even when playing a modpack (which I now always do), I get rid of them and don't even try the modpack with them in. I hate railroads with a passion. I have considered putting them back in but giving them a ridiculouosly high base cost so that it would take maybe 800 turns for one worker to make one RR tile but I don't think the AI would be able to handle it.

I bought each of the civ3 titles as soon as they came out in the UK (its amazing how quickly you can scrape money together when you need to).
And it has oly been in the last 2 months that i worked out how to mod the game, the only modding i have done is to increase the power differences between the units, i got sick of warriors killing my MAs - i also made the units more realistic, why should a cataplut have the same movement rate as radar artillery?

I'm playing it umodded until I manage to work my way up to Deity, but I restart until I get a decent locale for my starting city. I just can't see the point of playing from a starting point in the middle of a swamp or desert.

The mods I will prolly do, when I am satisfied I can beat the game as the game designers made it, are to do with corruption, I just feel the corruption is too rampant to be realistic, and in many ways for me anyway, slightly spoil the game.

I am far too inept technically to get any kind of mod action at all. I just put my C3C disc in and go and am so far happy with that. There's plenty of diversity to be had as is.

I guess I would like to try modding the game at some point but the idea of getting that technical scares the living hell out of me. My fear and inability with more subtle technicalities in any kind of compter game is both frustrating and a god send as I don't need another excuse to play more Civ!

Rise and Rule mod. The only way to Civ. :D

That's why I like Civ 3. It's editor is fairly intuitive and easy to use. So long you have a basic knowledge of the mechanics of the game (like unit combat values, etc), modding the rules is a breeze. Unlike many other games where you have to be fluent with coding and triggers etc.

You should try it one day. :)

Rise & Rule, and my own tweaks to the standard rules.

And no, you can't have a copy! ;) (not worth having, really.)

Rohili My technical inabilities go very far indeed. I don't even know where the editor is! These attempts generally degenerate into me getting a headache and slouching despairingly in front of the comp wondering how far into a normal game I could've got in the same time and without the headache.

Start/Programs/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization III/Civ3Editor.

Of course, the PTW and C3C editors are in their respective submenus.

Thanks Turner. I'm now more scared than before. It's good to know the Editor is there but I still think I am satisfied with the game as is. I have no inclination to adapt it right now.

I have never played any modded-rule game (except for the GOTM). I have never played the real world map or any map that I have advance knowledge of shape and size. Sure, I used MapFinder to find out the exact number of domination tiles, but that's just a number. It's no different than knowing that all of us here today are all going to die within 150 years from now. Of course, I could be wrong about that...may be I will meet an alien from outer space in a near future and he will give me an immortality pill or something.:)
