I always play with the default rules, unless playing scenarios, which happens rather rarely. When I started playing I mistakedly checked "Accelerated Production", though.

I've mostly been playing scenarios lately, but I've modded the epig game a bit too. Just to tone down armies and bombardment units so they're not such a huge advantage for me.

Well, one of my purpose of this thread was to see what changes people made to their game rules. I'll start the ball rolling by posting the rule changes I made for a game I am going to play in the near future:

Paratrooper - Changed name to Defence Paratrooper, no longer upgrades to anything. 6/12/1, HP Bonus 1, Defensive Bombard Strength 6, ROF 1. 110 shields. Planning to use it to airdrop over newly-captured cities for some quick defence.

Modern Paratrooper - Changed name to Attack Paratrooper, available with Advanced Flight. 14/6/2, 120 shields.

Chasqui Scout - Can now enslave units into scouts.

F-15 - Movement upped to two, so that it can make use of its bombard and air superiority at the same time.

Carrack - Transports 4 instead of 3 units. No longer upgrades to Galleon (no need to).

Added airlift options for cannon, artillery, radar artillery and scouts.

Frigates and Man-o-wars upgrade to Battleship.

Battleship given lethal land and sea bombardment.

Submarines and nuclear subs given hidden nationality.

Plus a few more tweaks here and there, like the Internet GW putting a research lab for every city on the map instead of just the continent (more logical IMO).
----------------------------------------------------------
Not sure how these changes would work out, we'll wait and see. :p

About 1 in 20... i stick to normal rules usually, i have a lot of mods, but do not use them.

Rohili I like your submarine changes. Makes sense and privateers as the only stealth unit are too lame. I also like your airlift alterations. It always bugs me that you can't airlift artillery, workers and leaders. If you can get a tank in a plane why not a leader, worker or artillery unit?

But I can't offer any of my rule mods because I haven't made any!

I'm still too new to try modding. I'm afraid I'd mess up the game entirely, and although I read something about backing up the original in case it was messed up, I wouldn't know where to put the backup or how to reinstall it if I wanted to.

Just call me technically challenged!!!

There is a hidden problem with submarines being hidden nationality - the AI goes nuts in producing them. This is why people got away from this method to eliminate the well known sub bug e.g.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I will add more units to detect invisible. :p

I'd also make Frigates/Men-O-War upgrade to Ironclads (the cheapest IA Naval unit, aside from Transports), not Battleships. Ironclads upgrade to Destroyers in C3C 1.22 already.

Wow, I figured most people stuck with default. I have my own custom set of rules that I like to play with sometimes....it's a nice break from the usual.

I tend to stick with the regular formula that came with the game but will impose certain restriction upon myself (eg. OCC, AW, no science, etc.).

How do you mod certain things?

L could like to customise things myself (like irrigation of hills, cheaper musketmen etc)

Lol weird, the modern era is the one which I enjoy the most. Pity it comes too late in the game to have much impact on the game. :(

This is my experiments too. Modern warfare has all the cool toys but that time when modern comes, I am either superior or in step away from winning so I guess that's it for the fun.

For the topic: Never. Well to be honest one time I was pretty close to disable all the corruption when played vanilla, but I was too lazy...and didn't want to cheat.

I do sometimes, if I'm bored. It can be anything from a slight change in a government to a crazy mod (which I accidently deleted) where you can only build on mountains and on the coast!

I have heavily modded my C3C game. Added a few techs, a whole wack of units, some resources and a massive amount of tweaks to most things. Some noteable changes include:

- Made cruise missiles into tactical missles so ships can carry them (modern subs, aegis cruisers and modern bb's)

- Smoothed the unit jump to tanks so it now goes -> Cavalry 6.3.3 -> Armoured Car 6.5.2 -> Land Ship 11.6.1 -> Light Tank 12.7.2 -> Tank 16.9.2 -> Heavy Tank 18.13.2 -> Armour 22.16.2 -> Modern Armour 24.18.3

- Added Static Infantry 4.7.1 as the no resource unit available at replaceable parts and moved Guerilla 8(4).8.1 to a new tech in the modern era

- Added plenty of "minor tribe" resources which provide barracks that build specific units/turn if it is in the cities radius

- removed bonus vs barbarians

- no settling in desert/tundra but added settling in mountains

- added anti-tank guns 2(12).10.1 ROF 2 -1hp to aid those civs incapeable of making tanks (the AI does build them)

- and much, much more...

On my 220x220 huge map, the globale warfare can be intense! Wouldn't play the game any other way.

I sometimes play RaR, and i always at least play with my planes are yuor friendmod

Planes Are Your Friend
-Planes bombing will kill a unit and once you get up to jet fighters you will always hit(i dont know about you but its pretty hard to miss a laced target with sparrows)

-Like tanks have +5 health and a large movement bonus plus therye attack is like thirty so i wont get any gay arsed spearmen killing tanks Boonswable.

-added techs(no portrate or anything) just the techs i think should be in there.

-A VERY few added units(all of the added units have warrior animations, its pretty funny watching a worker lay the hurt down on some Mech infi)

-and giant death robots(soon to be radioactive monkey to).

ohhh and one more thing-the barbs will kik your azz.

Other than the Demogame, I've been playing RaR ever since I got C3C (ok, I played a few straight games of C3C until RaR was developed). I discovered DYP shortly after I got PTW, and I played that mod until I got C3C.

I played the default rules once or twice just to get a feel of the game and then switched over to modded games. I ALWAYS get rid of railroads! Even when playing a modpack (which I now always do), I get rid of them and don't even try the modpack with them in. I hate railroads with a passion. I have considered putting them back in but giving them a ridiculouosly high base cost so that it would take maybe 800 turns for one worker to make one RR tile but I don't think the AI would be able to handle it.
I totally agree with you :)

I voted from my single gaming habits ... I exclusively use mods (WH,MoM,Colonize!,etc) and can't wait for some of the scifi mods to arrive

Thinking about it, I prefer games that change the game completely ... the look, units, game play ... in fact not much of vanilla left ...

One simple tweak that really changes the strategy is ... the creation of impassible terrain (Mountains,Swamp) ... I like very much ... effects where I build cities ...

I have started pbem and it was a bit of a shock going back to standard game and associated scenarios  ... but pbem does open exciting new dimentions ... 'real' diplomacy :D

Regards and good poll to post :goodjob:
