Do you sneak food into the movie theatre?

I never used to - I always purchased their ridiculously overpriced food like a good boy until one day an incident happened that broke the camels back.

My girlfriend and I went to an AMC theatre and payed the admission price for 2 tickets - I think it was $12.50 and then headed to the concession stand.

She wanted to buy some water but a SMALL bottle of water was going to cost $3.60!!! (you can buy 1.5 Litre bottle of spring water for $1.99 in the grocery store) So instead she asked for a cup with tap water and they replied that since they count their cups they can only give her a "complimentary cup" which turned out to be a little tiny dixie cup (about one gulp of water!!). She then realized that she had an empty water bottle in her purse and tried to fill that up in the washroom but the taps outputted WARM water only - unsuitable for drinking obviously. This is "H2O Blackmail" as they do everything possible to make sure that you must buy their overpriced bottled water. Even restaurants will give you as many free glasses of ice water as you want.

I then proceeded to buy a package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups which cost me $3.49!!!!! I can buy TWO packages of these at the dollar store for $1.00 Even assuming you were to buy them at a convenience store at 1 for $1.00 thats still a 300% markup!!!

I don't mind paying more for food for a "night out" as you do whenever you go to a restaurant but at some point it becomes an obscenity. They've forced us into a dramatic course of action.

After that evening we swore we'd do everything possible to avoid purchasing snacks from those robber barons and now sneak chocolate bars and bottled pop/water into the theatre with us.

This will work until the theatres start employing "Snack Nazi's" to sit in the theatres and snitch on people like us. I fear that those days aren't far away at all.

ever gotten the flashlight shone on you? Thats the worst thing in the world while sharing a mouth with someone else. Let alone when you have a can of pop in your lap.

Yes I sneak food into movie theaters, mostly because I dont like any of the candy they sell there, I like those candies you can get at seven-eleven, the blue whales, the coke bottles etc..

:crazyeye:

man it's only $12.50 for 2 tickets there? i paid 15.50 the last time i went.(anger management, it was "ok") I'll sneak candy in, buy the popcorn & soda & whatever else the lady wants.

yeah, its about $10.00 a pop here (canadian) per adult ticket on a general night. Give or take a couple dollars.

Spycatcher, that's bad! Bad!

(slaps wrist)

but  to Immortal and the blue whales; I love those things.

But I don't smuggle, basically because I'm too lazy to bother.

I told this story to my younger brother and he was like "You're just starting this NOW? We stop at like Wendy's or Burger King and smuggle in Burgers and Fries and stuff"

:)

Well, if you think you're getting ripped off, here is a hint: stop going.

Personally, I'm becoming a net flix addict :)

I do enjoy paying the 600% mark-up, though, but only for that great movie theatre popcorn and over-iced soda. Just the way I like it at home (and can't get it).

I probably would stop going - but my girlfriend likes going to the movies. :) Besides, why would is stop going when smuggling solves the problem AND allows me to see the movie in the theatre? :)

I agree with you on the popcorn point - Movie theatre pocorn is great and I don't mind paying the price for it - at least it isn't something you can walk into a store and buy for 1/3 of the price so I don't feel as if i'm getting scammed.

Wow... Did we Just agree on something Greadius? Scary stuff. :)

Multi pocket coats are also great for smuggling in whatever you want.

Since living in England I like to have a few beers when I am watching movies, like I do at home with videos. A large coat can hold a whole 6 pack and any assorted salt snacks or candy you want. Unfortunately this only works in winter as it is frequently over 30C (86F) here. Just make sure its not a 3+ hour saga or you are in trouble if not near an exit.

I desperately miss my Net Flix since moving to OZ. I miss my DVD player, Bigscreen TV and Surround Sound too.

I do sometimes. Sure, they have a right to TRY to make rules for their establishment, but in this case they can kiss my a**--as long as I don't get caught, of course.

If I owned a theatre, I would allow people to BYOB (beverages, not booze--unless no local laws applied to that), and my concessions would have prices competitive with the local convenience store. Take business away from the other guys.

They would be very stupid if they'd start using "Snack Nazi's", they'd eventually run outta business. The worst thing for me, is when stores, including movie theatres start getting primitive in their way of formulating rules, for example, in a computer store they have signs comfortably informing you that "By opening this ????, you will be turned over to the police". I'm really disgusted by this. If that's somekind of sales trick, I guess I don't belong in that kind of business.

I didn't even know that you shouldn't smuggle food in the cinema. I've walked in carrying a bag full of "outside" food and no one said anything. Maybe they just don't care at my cinema or are really lazy.

Well, I don't smuggle food, but it's mainly because I don't eat when in a movie theater.

I did not even knew it was forbidden though. I suppose that in Europe there is not such interdictions (and the water is fresh here ^^).

I'd usually take in a bottle of soft drink (like 1.5L) and some chocolate (like a bag of m&ms) or something. They don't really care about it at all. If i was wanting popcorn tho, i'd buy it - even at the exorbitant prices.

Only candy and such... popcorn and limonade I buy from theatre if I want some. I go to movies only once or twice in year, so those prices won't bother me that much.

Smuggling is a mortal sin, and one would never think of engaging in such depraved activity. :king:

I never smuggle food into a movie theater, the first reason being all the movie theatres around here have big, scary looking ushers who could spot a sneak-in at any second (and trust me, they have!), the second reason is that around my place there's never any food good enough to eat. Whenever I go to the movies, I look forward to chilidogs, popcorn, soda, and a variety of other calorie heavy junk-foods that feed the American lifestyle! :D
