Why is this thread dead? It seemed fun.
Well then start a new war with expanded civ list, maybe it will catch back on.
Since you dug it up, I have red the rules, seems easy to follow. Civ gets eliminated at 0, this is easy to guess and if you go from 1 to 0 you get to subtract 1 from other civ as well, but I guess you can't split your subtraction vote in different circumstances.

@ales_ has not been seen since 2018, so it may be better not to wait for him to continue his work.

However I doubt it will catch on with that many civs and not that many users.

Reading the thread, I found a proposition from someone to split the war between continents. Maybe one continent would be more reasonable and would likelier catch on rather than a world war.

Feel free to continue using this thread if you want to pick it back up, no need to start a new one.

So it is likely we start a new war on this thread, but the question is : the world or a lone continent? (answer with one of the two proposals, the first one to get three "yes" will be chosen)

I vote that each continent has its own roster. And at the end, the winner of each continent goes on to the world championship round. And the winner of that will be the world winner.

I think you should split Asia into two, though. It would feel wrong for Phoenicia and Japan to be in the same group.

Well, that's three "yes", so I suppose we're gonna start continent by continent.

First, let's divide civs between zones.
@ozqar had this proposition:

Spoiler Spoiler (long post) :

Proposed groupings and number of civs passing to next round for each group:

Ancient Mediterranean Group (6 civs; 2 Finalists)
Egypt
Babylonia
Greece
Phoenicia
Persia
Rome

East Asian Group (5 civs; 2 Finalists)
China
Korea
Japan
Tibet
Mongolia

South Asian Group (7 civs; 2 Finalists)
India
Polynesia
Tamils
Khmer
Indonesia
Mughals
Thailand

African Group (3 civs; 1 Finalist)
Ethiopia
Mali
Congo

Native American Group (3 civs; 1 Finalist)
Maya
Inca
Aztec

East European Group (3 civs; 1 Finalist)
Byzantium
Russia
Poland

West European Group (9 civs; 3 Finalists)
Vikings
Spain
France
England
Holy Rome
Portugal
Italy
Netherlands
Germany

Middle Eastern (4 civs; 1 Finalist)
Arabia
Moors
Turkey
Iran

Post-Colonial American Group (6 civs; 2 Finalists)
America
Argentina
Mexico
Colombia
Brazil
Canada

The number of finalists was determined as #civs/3, rounded up or down. This makes it a bit unfair for the Middle Eastern (they're 4, 1 passes) and the South Asian (they're 7, 1 passes), while easier for the East Asian (they're 5, 2 pass), but you can move some civs around to make it fairer if you want. It's just an idea anyway.

Of course, there are now new civs we can add to that list, which means the groups are now like this:

Spoiler :

Ancient Mediterranean Group (11 civs; 2 Finalists)
Egypt
Nubia
Babylonia
Assyria
Hittites
Greece
Phoenicia
Persia
Rome
Gaul
Harappa

East Asian Group (5 civs; 1 Finalist)
China
Korea
Japan
Tibet
Mongolia

South Asian Group (11 civs; 2 Finalists)
India
Kushans
Polynesia
Dravidians
Khmer
Vietnam
Burma
Java
Malay
Mughals
Thailand

African Group (4 civs; 1 Finalist)
Ethiopia
Mali
Congo
Swahili

Native American Group (4 civs; 1 Finalist)
Maya
Inca
Aztec
Toltec

East European Group (4 civs; 1 Finalist)
Byzantium
Russia
Ruthenia
Poland

West European Group (10 civs; 2 Finalists)
Sweden
Norse
Spain
France
England
Holy Rome
Portugal
Italy
Netherlands
Germany

Middle Eastern (5 civs; 1 Finalist)
Arabia
Moors
Ottomans
Iran
Turks

Post-Colonial American Group (6 civs; 1 Finalist)
America
Argentina
Mexico
Colombia
Brazil
Canada

Edit : added civs that were added to the game before 1.18 but after the ozqar post (Turks, Harappa)

Should some of these groups be merged (Ante and Post-colonial American, East and Western European, South and East Asian)?

Also tell which one you want to begin with.

Maybe we'll start with a category that will certainly not be merged :
Ancient Mediterranean Group (11 civs; 2 Finalists)
Egypt
Nubia
Babylonia
Assyria
Hittites
Greece
Phoenicia
Persia
Rome
Gaul
Harappa
Let's clarify rules:
- Every civilization starts with 5 points.
- A player can play once in a day or after 3 other players played.
- During his turn a player rises the points of one civ by 1, and has also to substract 2 points from 1 civ or 1 from 2 civs.
- Copy-paste the precedent message and modify it. Ypur changes are symbolized by red and green on the new message.
