DocT01b - Middle Ages Modified: William Wallace

873 AD: I hate to lose 7 turns of research at this point in the game so I'm leaving us at HBR. I hope this doesn't bite us later. I decide to take Doc's advice and start a temple at Stratheclyde and start cranking warriors at our capital. I rush the settler in Brittany. I really want a foothold on the mainland.

876 AD: I Build Entremont on the wool in Western Ireland. It gives a nice cash boost (+9 a turn). Since we are still planning on flipping Dublin and it has a token defender I start a temple there. I decide to haul the archer escort over to the capital to aid in our eventual attack on England.

879 AD: The English expand their border next to Stratheclyde. I guess we do need the temple there. I have to fiddle with some unhappy people.

882 AD: Ignoring the advice given, I found Alesia near the quarry and the cows.

885 AD: The French settled where I would have really liked in Brittany.

888 AD: Found Lugdunum next to Britanny.

891 AD: Nothing much happened.

894 AD: Plans are moving apace.

897 AD: I decide we need a worker down in Cornwall. It's shame we are going to war soon... The Norwegians park on the Orkney choke point one turn before I get there. It now takes two units (which I supply) unless he budges.

900 AD: A few units are produced. I'm sending them to Stratheclyde.

It's all yours, CT.

The save:

Got it. I'll probably play sometime later today.

If you decide to keep up the Orney blockade, you may want to replace the swordsman with a warrior. I was going to, but when he and his buddy got there, the berserk fortified on the spot I wanted and I needed both to do the blockade.

Opened up the file. Not very encouraging that we're about to start a war and the Military Advisor is telling us that "Compared to these guys, our military is weak!" for every nation we've met so far...

We do actually seem to have the highest population of any nation we've met though, not that that is worth much...

Good luck Chieftess, and then BobT, you have your work cut out for you!

Playing now.

Those sheep give a fair amount of gold. It is a strength I hadn't realized the Celts would have.

Game Save

Turn 0 - 900AD

Inherited Turn.
Brittany is unhappy. It's at this point that I miss my smiley face popheads. Bump lux to 10%. Place the scientist in Dyfed back on the sheep. Not only is it a productive city, it gives us more gpt. I put a scientist in Brittany, since that's the city that's not very productive.

Turn 1 - 903AD

Cork: Temple->Spear
Start mining the wool by Dyfed for production. Start mining the wool by Armagh. A Denmark spear is heading north, past Lugdunum.

IBT: England unloads a settler/spear pair to an island north of us (in the fog)

Turn 2 - 906AD

Brittany: Warrior->Warrior
Cornwall: Worker->Temple
Gwynedd: Sword->Sword

Switch Dyfed to a barracks so the warriors can be upgraded.

Turn 3 - 909AD

Armagh: Archer->Curragh

Turn 4 - 912AD

Entremont: Temple->Warrior

IBT: English settler/spear pair approaches in the north of the English island. I think they're trying to settle in our north.

Turn 5 - 915AD

Dalriada: Archer->Archer

IBT: English settler/spear pair heads off to a galley and sets sail.

Turn 6 - 918AD

Strathclyde: Archer->Spear
Alesia: Temple->Barracks
Lugdunum: Warrior->Worker

Corwall is connected to the tar. Curragh unloads an archer. Wools are being connected.

Turn 7 - 921AD

Armagh: Curragh->Barracks (I want vet swords, too!)
Dyfed: Barracks->Sword
Entremont: Warrior->Warrior

Turn 8 - 924AD

Move the curragh into Gwynedd so I can wake the warrior an move him to Dyfed without losing any points. (a psuedo 5-movement warrior!). Upgraded warrior to sword. Repeated the above step with the 2nd curragh/warrior group. Upgraded a 3rd warrior to a sword.

Turn 9 - 927AD

Dalriada: Archer->Spear
England has HBR now... as does France.

Turn 10 - 930AD

Gwynedd: Sword->Sword
Entremont: Warrior->Warrior

Alesia expands. Moved the warrior from Entremont to Armagh. Woke the warrior in Armagh and placed him on the curragh. The curragh is in Gwynedd, along with the warrior (I just woke him). Upgraded another warrior. We have 9 swordsmen now.

The new lineup:
1. BobT <-- up NEXT
2. Merepatra <- on deck (if available)
3. Gobi Bear
4. Warpstorm
5. Chieftess

What's the plan, Chieftess? Do we shuttle all those swords north for a limited strike on Bamburgh? Or do we attack from Wales?

If we sailed a Curragh around to the east coast of England (or built one over there), we could land a troop south of Bamburgh the turn we attack. Might allow us to stop reinforcements from getting in that city. Looks like we might be able to get forces into 4 of the 5 tiles around that city on the turn we invade.

I was thinking of a 2-pronged attack. Group 1 (mostly archers, and some swords) start 1 south of Strathclyde. Group 2 (mostly swords) start 1 east of Dyfed.

Group 1 moves east and attacks Bamburgh. Once they take it, move along the hills, south to Cumbria.

Group 2 moves 1 tile east, then attacks the city in the fog (Re-something) with the iron, then moves to Chippenham.

That's what I'm hoping for.

So you are going for a relatively total knockout of England? Not just a "take one city for the iron" limited war?

Think we have a shot at that?

I was kind of hoping that we'd have enough troops soon. I'm still concerned about going for one side and leaving another undefended, though. I'd atleast like to go for their iron.

Even if we can't get a total knockout, it looks like we might be able to cripple them. Of course, hitting Chippenham hard could be close to a knockout. IIRC, from when I played as the English, that is where the Holy Grail is as well as some royalty.

There's also an AI army there, too, IIRC.

Well, it is their capital and it does have royalty in it.

Sorry for delay guys, never got email notification in the thread and had not been here in a day or so :(

Will play out turns tomorrow night once i study save. :)

Wish me luck.

The inherited turn leaves me with a few things that for personal preferences I needed to change.

First off, as soon as I roll into the new turn of 933 ad Armagh goes into civil disorder. Pulled citizen off food near fish to allow for entertainer. Can not afford to have city production halted at this point.

I watch a brit sword leave their capital heading west in a hurry, so have a hunch they may be up to something with one of the other neighbours.

Strathclyde builds a spear on the turn, and is now set with a number of archers and a couple of spears so I change its production to barracks.

Cornwall completes a temple, and is switched to archer.

I start a second worker in Gynedd with the feeling we need to get that land worked asap in order to get the most out of it as fast as possible. We will not go to far with a stack of regular units.

I put Dariadah on settler production with the plan of settling in the hills north, close to the new English city.

936 AD Dublin is ours, culture flip succeeds. Now we are faced with a wandering berserker, and Norway worker. Letting them be atm.

Lugdunhum goes in disorder, and order is restored in Armagh.

The two southern most cities we have, Britany and Lugdenhum do not look healthy and I am concerned that they will be flipped. Trying to get temples in at least.

Moved research up to 20 percent to get HB done in 10. We will have horses, and need to get some research done. Gold down to +2. but more workers and roads and mines will help.

942 ad Alesha completes barracks and is set to produce vet archers.

945 Armagh completes barracks, and is now producing vets. We are now average to Norway in strength. Things slowly looking better.

Dalriada produces settler to move north, Armagh cultural borders expand.

Cornwall cultural borders expand.

948 no real new progress, just continuing with production of units and barracks. Road work is essential as well as mines . More workers are now in the field and maybe we can turn it soon. Will settle new city in two. This should get gold back to positive flow.

954 new city settled north, two small stike forces in position to hit England north and south. Good luck ļ

Save attached.

954 AD

Mere is up next, but I haven't seen her online since the death in her family.

I have another SG turn to finish tonight (our Vandals are taking out Milan and Ravenna in FOR ... good stuff!) so I will give her another day or two to show up. If not, I'll take the turn then.

Any words of advice, Bob?

Only thing for advice is I would still be very cautious of launching an early hit. We are to weak in the back, and Noreway could easily jump in with England., SO build up forces for two or three more turns yet IMHO
