DocT4-How to Rise as a Ruler (RaR Training SG)

I will have to skip this turn.While trying to finish my turns on saturday my computer had a serious crash and doesn't work any more (currently online from university).I'm unable to say how long it will take to repair it/reinstall everything.I will check in here again as soon as everything runs again.Sorry for the delay :(

Yes, having one more player would make sense, even if I should be able to come back soon.After Gyathaar and Knappagh1 have dropped out, we are down to 5, which is rather few for a training game with two trainers.

lurker's comment:
Hello, some of you may know me...I have some interest in a RaR SG. I've started a RaR game and got to the Middle Ages where I stopped...I don't know exactly the best way to play this mod. I have RaR 1.01 installed, and have played a OCC of DyP before. PS: I have been lurking this game since the start (or at least most of it).

edit: I looked at the save. I think I'll lurk this one. I'm looking forward to some single player games though. :)

I have Rar1.00 Basic on scenario folder,don't know whether it's ok,or where is new 1.01rar download.

Edit:Update to 1.01 thanks to DocT's signature.Now this post is a sign-up,I'll play after Tinkez if you agree. ;)

Unfortunaltely work has piled up so badly that I'm unable to play before Thursday, which luckily is a free day in the whole country. Therefore, if someone wants to play 10 turns before Thursday, go ahead, otherwise I play on Thursday.

Well, I'm not going to be here Fri through Mon so its probably best if me and Tinkerz swap places.

I've got it and will play it tonight if no one objects in the next couple of hours.

Okay heres the first 5 turns.

Turn 0 (950AD)
Wake up elephant riders in the persian colonies and start them roading.
Leave Lhasa on Shakes for now.
Since I'm not sure if we are staying a Democracy I switch all Philosphers schools to Libaries or academies.
Bamda>>Major port
Hurry Monument in Namco for 70g

IBT olive oil deal with india expires. he wants loads for a renewal, I pass.

That was a big mistake as without sikkham riots - bugger.
Americans and Koreans start Gutenburgs bible.

Turn 1 (960AD)
Raising Lux tax costs 100gpt. instead I buy Gems off the Arabs for literature, mounted archery and spices
Move troops towards southern tip.
Found Baqen in extreme north >>harbor
Upgrade a Bushi to Musket man for 120gp

Turn 2 (970AD)
Perspective comes in (forgot to change) start on Juris Prudence finally. 3 turns at 20%
Cozhe monument>>Bazaar (need those banks up for the central) [5]

India start Gutenburgs bible. Celts complete circus maximus :)

Rush town clock in Golmud

IBT

rush Bazaar's in Golmud and Madrid

Turn 5 (1000) and welcome to the industral age.
Start Research on steam power [5 at 20%]
The loss of Chizen Itza costs us 100gpt a turn :(
Our free tech is Constitutionalism

Madrid Bazaar>>Marketplace
Golmud Bazaar>>Marketplace
Sikkham smiths comes in (saving us 30gpt in upkeep)>> Marketplace [4]
Chamdo town clock>>guildhall [12]
Iekundo town clock>>Bazaar [4]

I'm going to stop there tonight because

A) should we switch to constiuional Monarchy? I'm thinking yes as it seems a good governerment with less corruption than democracy and we want that magna carter small wonder (and the AntiWW stuff might not hurt either since it gives culture). I estimate we'll be 20 or so units the unit support limit.

B) might not get the 5 banks done in time to take advantage of the Lhasa Shakespears prebuild. What should we do with it if we can build the central bank?

C)I'm tired ;)

Will play rest tomorrow. probably will switch to constituitional monarchary unless anyone convinces me otherwise.

And the second half of the turn Log

I take the plunge and revolt.
do alot of micro for growth.

Turn 6 (1010 AD)

move troops

Turn 7 (1020 AD)

We are now a constitutitional monarchy: An extra 150gpt income - 56gpt unit costs.

Turn 8 (1030 AD)

Seville Academy >> Port [20]
Kumbum University >> War Monument [8]

Koreans start Newtons University
Sikkham and Gartokh at size 15 need one citizen on a specialist. need to find an extra luxary somewhere as raising th lux tax costs 100gpt

Rush Market in madrid by accident.

Turn 9

Madrid Marketplace >> Bank [80]
Iekundo bazaar >> Marketplace [6]
Cumae Harbor >> Port [10]
Pamplona Temple >> Water Mill [8]
Bamda Major port >> Temple [7]

Turn 10 (1050 AD)

Sikkham Marketplace>>Bank [6]
Barcelona Academy>> Wind Mill [20]
Oma Town Clock >> War Memoral [7]
Gomo Wind mill >> Courthouse [5]

Switch Lhasa to Magna Carta [16]

I'd use the Leh Gutenburgs for central bank when the 5 banks are built
The tomb of the unknown soldier I think is pretty good wonder to go for at some point; +1 culture per city.

On to Tinkerz

Wouldn't build the Magna Charta. Get 5 District Courthouses instead, and build The Supreme Court - same effect, much cheaper, not Gov-specific (we may want to revolt to Social Democracy later). And Gutenberg's is quite a nice wonder, I would build that one.
How far is the Summer Palace (Santiago)?

Pre-turn:

Persians are almost an age behind us! Looks like good preparation for war has been done, so I'm going to have war-filled turns.

Switch Magna Carta to Gutenbergs in Lhasa (saves us 6 turns - 3 other civs are also building this wonder). Leh to Newtons. Research goal will be Federalism (district courthouse) and modern legal system (supreme court).

Science to 30% to get steam power in 2.

1060AD(1):

Declare on Persia. Attack Tarsus with one cuirassier and kill the spear.

Several ships are on GO TO. Please do not leave units on GO TO!

Rush barracks in Madrid to get a possibility to upgrade several slaves / workers nearby.

IBT: Jumbo on mountain retreats from a swordman.

Steam power -> federalism.

Santiago summer palace -> artist guild.

1070AD(2):

Take Tarsus, no losses.

Darius Kabir is auto-razed, spear killed one of our cuirassiers.

1080AD(3):

Units towards Susa.

Upgrade > 10 slaves/workers/peasants to laborers.

IBT:

:lol: We get an other scientific leader when federalism is discovered! Start Modern legal system.

1090AD(4):

Set 3 district courthouses to production, slowest will be ready in 7 turns.

Capture Susa, no losses.

I'm wondering what to do with the scientific leader. There are no good wonders to rush, so I do something I haven't ever tried: Scientific age. This game is already practically won, so in my opinion we can do some testing. Other option would be to use it for district courthouse, but I choose not to.

1100AD(5):

Ghulaman is auto-razed. We get 2 workers.

IBT:

Persians counter to Susa, lose a colonial marine and a halbedier.

We build Gutenbergs, Newtons, Military academy and 1 district courthouse.

1110AD(6):

Nada.

IBT:

Modern Legal System -> Nationalism

1120AD(7):

Pillage Persian jumbos. That should slow those guys down.
Ergili is auto-razed.

1130AD(8):

Move troops towards Hamadan.
3 settlers on route to settle the auto-razed cities.
Rush last district courthouse.

1140AD(9):

Switch Leh to Supreme Court from distric courthouse, due in 6 turns.
Move units at range of Pasargadae.
Hmm?? I had last turn 1 turn to go on nationalism, but it's still 1 turn? No city rioted...
I sell Mercantilism to Korea for Dyes+Music Theory+WM+800gp. Further Perspective for 820gp.
Sell Elephant Training (!!!) to Japan for WM+140gp+7gpt (!!!!)
Perspective to India for WM+192gp.

1150AD(10):

Capture Pasargadae.
Barong is founded on the Persian continent.

Notes:

Remember to sell the district courthouses once supreme court is ready (5 turns!)
Persians are dead meat - finish them off.
There are 2 settlers on boat coming to the persian continent.
Remember to keep building culture - I built several artist guilds and more are coming (they are 3cpt)
Researchwise following could be good:
-City planning (allows Eiffel tower - free monument)
-High explosives to get rails

Have fun!

Wasn't the "Scientific golden age" button shown to do nothing? I can't remember.

edit:
Quick use of the search function - Here's a thread where its claimed not to work but I couldn't find the threads where testing is shown. But apparently the game lies to you about it!?! - the "turns to research" number drops but no extra beakers are added and the turns to go will hang at 1 till the tech is gotten in the time it would normally.

oh well :crazyeye:

Yes, sadly the scientific age is completly messed up, you gain no benefit ofit.But even if it would work the way it does, I don't think it would be really worth - most wonders offer more benefits and you can stack SGLs until you are able to build a really valuable wonder (only disadvantage: an exisring SGL prevents MGLs from occuring).So we have wasted a SGL, but I don't think it will hurt us really ;)

Nice work on Persia :hammer: Tinkez

DocT: What's the current roster?

Are there any upcoming techs/units to target?

After Persia is is there a logical next target? (Japan maybe)

I was completely unaware that the scientific age does not work. :eek: That explains why the turns showed that the tech should be discovered next turn and it wasn't. Thanks for the info. :goodjob:

An other thing I learned was that always check for wonders in COASTAL city - I did check possible wonders in an inland city - did not see the international port option. :sad:
