DocT4-How to Rise as a Ruler (RaR Training SG)

Capital will grow in 8, Archer (Otomo na Makuta) is due in 2, Hardy will take 6 then (Iron city). After that, Palace Gardens, Academy, The Academy (plus any availble production booster).
Sikkhim has quite a lot of food surplus and high shields, this city alone should be able to outexpand anyone (about as close to a "Settler Factory" as it could be in RaR).

Techs: CE and CE :lol: look good; would then go for Aristocracy (we know we'll have Iron). Then, it depends on if we have Horses.

Ships: Agree, but not from Sikkhim (unless it'll finish before the Barb). "Iron City" is better.

Since you already have people signed up drop me out of the running. I will be lurking this thread to learn. Any problem with a lurker posting questions about strategy here?

I currently in SGOTM4 and signing up for 5 so don't want to slow you guys down.

Turn Log 2

Turn 0 – 1500 BC – I could trade 210g for Slavery, but I think I’ll wait – all else seems ok

IBT: Gartokh builds Wiseman starts Hardy Pioneer

Turn 1 – 1475 BC – Moving Hardy Pioneer to NE city site – Send Regular Jomon Warrior to meet up with Pioneer – Move Vet Jomon Warrior to MP in Gartokh – Move Scout2 towards GH – Move Scout3 NW-N meeting a Roman worker and finding the northern coast – Price for slavery has dropped to 180g, let’s wait some more

IBT: Lhasa builds Otomo no Mukuta (archer) starts Palace Gardens

Turn 2 – 1450 BC – Send Otomo to Sikkim – Asian Worker moves to connect next city – Scout2 pops hut for 50g – Scout3 N – No changes on trade front

IBT: Roman warrior moves away

Turn 3 – 1425 BC – Vet JW MP in Gartokh – Asian Worker starts road – Worker moves to road to future city site – Scout2 moving east – Scout3 moves NE along the coast – Pioneer & Escort will reach site next turn – no changes on trade front

IBT: Nothing happens

Turn 4 – 1400 BC – Worker moves to start road – Pioneer & Escort reach site – Scout2 moves into Roman lands – Scout3 east – Otomo reaches Sikkim – Drop science to 50% still due in 2 – Still can buy slavery

IBT: Apologize to Caesar for Scout2 – Sikkim builds Harbor starts Asian Pioneer

Turn 5 – 1375 BC – Otomo moves to cover worker – Worker starts road – Settler founds Leh starts Wiseman – Scout2 checking out Rome – Scout3 heading NE – JW MP in Leh

IBT: Discover Philosophy research Civil Engineering (Why not Classical Education first it’s more expensive) - Get Civil Engineering as Philosophy bonus research Classical Education at 60% - Spain has gained Dynasticism

Turn 6 – 1350 BC – Otomo covers worker – Asian Worker moves to connect Leh – Scout2 continues exploring Rome – Scout3 confirms NE corner of island

IBT: Nada

Turn 7 – 1325 BC – Worker & Escort move to next road site – Asian Worker starts road – Scout2 roaming around Rome – Scout3 heading south – Nothing except Slavery to trade for

IBT: Sikkim builds Asian Pioneer starts Worker Housing (vetoable)

Turn 8 – 1300 BC – Worker starts road w/Otomo standing guard – Asian Pioneer heading for NW yellow dot – Scouts roaming southward – Decide to buy Slavery from Spain for 180g

IBT: Nothing

Turn 9 – 1275 BC – Otomo rests – Scouts heading south – Pioneer crosses the river

IBT: Nothing

Turn 10 – 1250 BC – Otomo moves to new city site – Worker heading south to prepare roads to southern city sites – Rome has founded Antium claiming the horses – Asian Worker has connected Leh moves to road northward – Scout2 moving east spots a Barbarian Swords to the north – Scout3 moving south

I sure that there's a lot of examples of things not to do in this log. I probably should have sent the settler all the way to the horses and back filled the current Leh spot. The BW never threatened Sikkim, so I let the harbor complete and I started Palace Gardens without getting out that settler first (still time to switch). I did think about Aristocracy as bonus tech, but went for a more expensive one (but not the most expensive, why?)

Decide to buy Slavery from Spain for 180g
Then, we should build a Salve Market in Lhasa (wouldn't have spent a single coin for that optional Tech btw, but that was up to you)

Please build a Hardy out of Lhasa after the Palace Gardens.

Didn't expect to beat Rome for the Horses anyway; no real problem, we have Iron and Camels. But Rome has Elephants nearby; that causes me a lot more headaches. Please use our current Settler to grab the Jumbos.

Switch the Wiseman in Leh to a Shrine, I want the border expansion. Then, nothing but production boosters and the FP once available.

IMHO we should prolly fill our lands, and then take the Horse city from Rome with MDIs.

Why CivEng first? We may have benefitted from the Mill.

I didn't realize Slavery was an optional tech :blush:

Once Classical Education is complete, then Aristocracy (for tea). What's next? Military Training or Currency would seem the most likely depending on which path (builder vs warrior) we are planning to take (if we have all the prerequisites).

Are there any wonders we should be thinking about trying to acquire?

Do we have any plans on how to eliminate those barbarian villages before the age change explosion occurs?

Do we have any plans on how to eliminate those barbarian villages before the age change explosion occurs?
Well, I'm pretty sure we're the most advanced Civ on Earth; so, remember what our UU is? Throw in some Jumbos, and we'll end with a nice stack of Slaves ;).

Wonders: Nothing we'd really need more than more cities. Colossus maybe, or Chichen Itza. Voyage of Discovery could be handy later.
But in general, the only really must-haves for me are Smith's, Supreme Court and Crystal Palace (and the Great Library on higher levels, of course).

Research: That is something completely up to the scholars. Decide which route you want (Military, Science, Commerce), and I'll advice on the best choices.

please skip me this round, I dont see when I will have the time to play this properly in the next few days.

Im playing my turns and I'm now in turn 4.We have reserached classical education and have founded the city south the elephants.Since I'm here as trainer I don't want to make too big decisions on my own...

1. Any thoughts on what we should research next? My idea would be Aristocracy for the FP or Riding as prequesite for Elephant Training.Or Fermentation, would only take 2 turns and we could sell it as optional tech to the AI.
3. Spain has a nice sum of money...we could trade them one of our techs, but I would wait with it since there is danger of barbarian raids at the moment.
2. Since more and more barbarians show up (which makes it difficult to improve tearrin, too), I would prefer improving our defense a bit and adding some spearman to our production.Of course it would delay our infrastructure plans.Any problems with this?

Some of the things we've determined so far:

1. We seem to be alone with Spain & Rome on an average sized continent.
2. We are the tech leader
3. So far we either have or will be able to acquire sufficient luxuries & resources to support a medium sized empire
4. Rome is probably #1 on the hit list (small and has a monopoly on horses)
5. Barbarians are preventing us from expanding to the northwest

Things to do:

1. Keep adding cities expanding towards Rome & Spain and then filling to the south
2. Keep researching at maximum allowed rate to maintian lead
3. Complete survey of coastline to assure no narrow peninsula to another island
4. Get a couple of boats out to contact the rest of the world

Proposed game plan:

1. During the early middle ages eliminate Rome using MDI
2. During the late MA eliminate Spain using Cavalry
3. Use the Industrial Age to complete this island infrastructure and gain a couple of wonders
4. In mid-late IA, mount an amphibious invasion of the smallest continent using tanks
5. In early Modern Age gain a beachhead on remaining continents
6. Build a respectable navy to ensure safe transport
7. Research towards Space Ship launch
8. In mid-MA, using advanced weaponry conquer another continent (right to domination limit)

Are there any wonders we should be insisting on building?

Any wonders we should avoid?

Comments?

1250 BC (PT):
- Leh: switched to shrine
- science lowered to 50% (because research time is still 4 turn)

1225 BC (1):
---

IBT:
Our scout in the NE is killed by a barbarian raider

1200 BC (2):
- Lhasa: Palace Gardens --> Slave Market (2t)
- Sikkim: Worker Housing --> Asian Pioneer (3t)

IBT:
A barbarian raider reaches Sikkim and probably will attack in the next turn

1175 BC (3):
- Leh: Shrine --> Spearman (8t)
- Science lowered to 40%; classical education will be researched in next turn

IBT:
The raider near Sikkim moves a tile along the city instead of attacking; a new raider shows up the tile SE Leh

1150 BC (4):
- researched Classical Education --> Fermentation (2t)
- Lhasa: slave market --> shrine (2t)
- founded Chambo S of the elephant ressource.It is protected (for the moment) by the Otomo no Makuta; production is set to Asian Woker (10t)
- production in Sikkim switched to Asian Spearman(1t), since we need defense for our new city and have to deal with barbarians
- our scout discovered a hut in the N
- lux set up to 30% to compensate the additonal unhappiness in Lhasa caused by the slave market

IBT:
The raider near Sikkim pillages a road.Another raider reaches Leh.

1125 BC (5):
- Sikkim: A.Spearman --> A.Spearman (3t)
- popped hut in Nwith scout...3 barb raiders

IBT:
Our scout in the N is killed.The barb raider near Leh retreats N.

1100 BC (6):
- researched Fermentation --> Aristocracy (5t) ...discovered 2x wines in NW hills and 2x more SE our capital
- Lhasa: Shrine --> A.Spearman (3t)
- lux down to 20%

1075 BC (7):
- Garthokh: Hardy Asian Pioneer --> A.Spearman (3t)
- lux down to 10%

IBT:
- barb raider pillages another tile near Sikkim...thats bad since the area is necessary for getting access to elephants
- Isabella establishes embassy

1050 BC (8):
- tribal guardsman in Lhasa upgraded
- lux raised to 20% again

1025 BC (9):
- Lhasa: A.Spearman --> Water Mill (8t)
- Sikkim: A.Spearman --> A.Pioneer (3t)

1000 BC (10):
---

NOTE: I haven't traded anything during my turns because of the presence of barbs and the fact we have a stable techlead.

I agree with Denyd's plan, we really could use more spears if we want to protect the elephant road back to the productive core cities with any reliabilty.

Some thoughts...

On with the attacking Rome plan, since they look quite weak - we could carpe diem with 5 elephants and 3 spears on Antium and Rome, say 25 turns after elephant training? (All the elephants built in Lhasa @ 4 turns each?)

Do we want to change to democracy/ Republic?. Democracy will let us cash rush but has high unit costs (we'd need alot more cities to wage a war in my opinion)

There are no MA wonders that leap out and beat you round the head with their greatness, Leonardos would be pretty sweet in whichever city builds The Academy but definately not vital (especially with its cost - I got it once with a Science leader and got another one off the two free techs....which was nice).

When BRiders show up in large stacks will it be a good idea to let them just sack the outlying cities? If so we prob should switch to Democracy beforehand to cash rush things in the non threated cities.

a city south of Lhasa that can pull in 2 mined jungle rice will make a 2 turn worker factory with a granery @ size 2. The other rice can help out a larger city and we will need more workers soon.

Got it.

Probably wont be able to play till tomorrow evening at the earliest. If Tinkez wants to grab it before then to keep things moving, feel free

I would wait with a war, too.As long as there is land to grab we should take it, while building up our defense.And elephants to deal with the barbs.Some enslaved worker would come in handy to improve our land.With better infrastructure and modern units a mid-age war should be rather easy against the techwise backward AI civs.

Im going to be playing shortly.

Anything i should be aware of or should be looking out for?

Knappagh, what is the status? Have you already played?

I took a look on the save. The overall advice above are good, just keep expanding the best you can and remember to keep the settlers protected as there are plenty of barbs around.

There is worker for sale from Rome, that could be bought. Also, don't build that many regular spearman as barracks are soon available. Especially Leh is not under barb threat, so maybe risky bet for a hardy could benefit us more and send unit support for the hardy from core cities.

Keep the capitol building infra, as that will benefit us the most in the long run, academy and arena are good choices.

Best of luck! :goodjob:

Sorry guys

but your going to have to skip me this turn. My machine at home is playing up big time. It will just about run in safe mode and i lost my dsl connection so its looking like a rebuild is in order. I can watch the progress of the game in work for now. I should be back up and running in a couple of days with any luck.
