DocT4-How to Rise as a Ruler (RaR Training SG)

My only problem is the roster:

Original Roster:
DocT - just played
Denyd - up!
Gyathaar
Pfeffersack
Knappagh1
Tinkez
Disenfrancised

However, Denyd is away, and Knappagh1 and Gyathaar were skipped in the last round; so, if Knappagh1 wants to jump in, go ahead. Otherwise it's up to Gyathaar (Up in all your SGs at the same time, eh? :D) .

I might be up in the hit list tonight, but i think i would be able to manage it. So i guess this is a got it.

Knappagh1, have you been able to play? Please report status or ask for skip. Is Gyaathar around? Can you play if Knappagh stays missing in action?

I would go on...Knappagh1s "Got it" is more than four days old, he hasn't post his save and we have the 24/48 rule.

Drop me from this game or something.. I have never really gotten to start playing in it, and everytime I think I will have time to play something else comes up. Sorry :(

My turn log...nothing exciting, everything goes on as planned and Rome is not a really dangerous enemy...

- Trade with Spain: Got Polytheism, Republic and 543 Gold <--> for Iron Working, Democracy, Riding and Classical Education.Another Trade (Military- or Elephant Training for lump gold) would be possible; I decide to abstain here, because we wouldn't get the full value of military training in gold and Elephant Training would enable Spain to build Jumbos)

- troops rallied near antium for attack next turn

Original Roster:

DocT -
Denyd -
Gyathaar - skipped/dropped out
Pfeffersack - just played
Knappagh1 - skipped
Tinkez - Up!
Disenfrancised - on deck

I a little confused about Spain signing a Trade Embargo with Rome against us and then giving GPT in a deal. Is that normal? I thought that when a trade embargo was in place no per turn deals could be made (but I could be wrong, it has happened before).

Aside from that question, nice turns and good move on saving the capital for last. It looks like Caesar is soon to be extinct. We should probably get another couple of scout ships out there looking for neighbors.

I'm guessing that we'll want to fill in the remaining space between us and Spain and then setup to remove Isabella from the game.

Is there a specific tech/unit/wonder that we should be targeting? (Similar to cavalry or Leo's in the standard game)

GpT deals aren't affected by trade embargos; I had the same question the first time someone signed at trade embargo against me in CivIII, but was reliefed to see none of my GpT deals were affected :)
"Trade" here means only luxuries and strategic ressources.

Yes, grabbing as much land as possible is the best we can do.Than build up our forces again and run over Spain.

Hmm, important wonders, techs, units...

Wonders: If this wouldn't be a Monarch and Training game, we would surely head for the Great Library.As DocTS already mentioned some later wonders(Smiths for example is really nice to have in RaR - defintly more valuable than in standard civ-, since it saves the huge maintenance for later commerce buildings...; the Hooverdam is another); in the nearer future; if we get SGLs, ok, otherwise we may be better of with investing shields in military infrastructure and some of the useful SWs (unit/army-producers).

Techs: There are some around, Crop Rotation is one of the most important - it enables irrigation!

Units: Our UU for a Golden Age in the right moment, artillery, enough workers, fast attackers.

Pre-Turn:

Looking good. Rome is ready to be finished. Rome is building Stonehenge, but I have no idea when that is started. I went through the logs for a while, but could not see when they have started it and as we're in war, I can't investigate the city.

I change colossus to great lighthouse in order to get safe sea movement. We need contacts!

IBT:

Roman champion attacks barb and dies. 4 barb horses pop out of south!

130BC(1):

Kill the wounded barb off with jumbo, get a slave.

IBT:

Indians complete Stonehenge. Well, that rules out the possibility of Rome completing it...

110BC(2):

Kill one TG from Rome, other Jumbos retreat. Lose an otomo no makuta against 2hp TG.

IBT:

Romans switch to Sphinx. That is 40 shields cheaper than Stonehenge.

90BC(3):

Nothing.

IBT:

Lhasa Library -> Jumbo.

70BC(4):

Jumbo in S kills a barb horse and promotes to elite :D

50BC(5):

Nothing.

30BC(6):

Jumbo kills barb horse in S and second Jumbo kills one in N.

IBT:

Naval code -> Vassalage to get Ghurkas. Now we can build a longboat.

10BC(7):

Kill roman champion.

Find Lhari on the tea concentration.

Neapolis is auto-razed. We gain 1 slave and 1 worker. It took for ages to get enough troops there. I did not want to attack with 3 Jumbos and then damage them all.

Get 2 slaves from 2 barb horses in S!

IBT:

America completes Sphinx.

Celts complete Great Wall.

10AD(8):

ZZZ

IBT:

Great Lighthouse completes.

Romans switch to Slave trade.

30AD(9):

Troops are now gathered next to Rome. Conquer the city, as I've been dragging this long enough.

50AD(10):

Nothing special.

Notes:

There are 3 Jumbos in the south to deal with the barb horses. Use them well as they have advantage in movement in Jungle!

Longship will be ready in 2, then go scouting. I would build second asap!

I would attack Pompeii first as there are 2 population and it's capital. Then as last get Cumae.

Remember to starve Rome. The flip risk is not bad as our culture is quite good.

There is a settler going to the ruins near the Jumbo near Lhari. Other settlers are on production, let's grab all the land we can. We do need more TG's as there are lots of barbs around.

Keep improving the terrain near capitol and keep the capitol on infra!

Turn log:

Turn 0

- Change Cozhe from Longship>shipyard (in 3) - its zero maintenance and the extra hp will help against the barbs
-
- What to rush in Rome? Obviously something expensive. Library or temple?
- Library wouldn?t give much right now but when Rome grows to be a good city maybe
- Temple will reduce effects of rushing and will give us 1/3 of the requirement for chitzen itza
- I rush the temple and starve it down to 1 next turn.
- Barbs move and another comes in from the west

Turn 1 (70AD)

- Vassalage comes in. Start theology (4)
- What?s that Catapult doing on its own near Rome?
- Roman champ comes out of Cumae
- Elite elephant out of Cozhe kills a barb in the south
- Vet out of Golmud kills Barb on marsh
- Lhari set to shrine to pull in some higher shield tiles
- Cumae is now size two so will attack there first then move to Pompeii
- Workers improve tiles up north

Turn 2 (90AD)

- Elephant produced in Leh, sent to deal with western barbs in our lands
- Leh >> Ghurka
- Iekundo: Barracks >> Ghurka (probably would have been better without barracks and building catapults, oh well might as well use the barrack if its there)
- Cumae rushed something, call off the assault
- Elephant kills last southern horse
- Send elite elephant in Cozhe north leaving one vet in each of Golmud and Cozhe

IBT

- Western barbs head for Sikkam ? bugger

Turn 3 (110AD)

- Chamdo; Hardy Pioneer >> Hardy Pioneer
- Cozhe; Shipyard >> Longship (7)
- Elephant kills Champion near Rome (Slave)
- Send Chamdo?s Pioneer south with spear escort via Leh to avoid the barbs
- Elephant kills Barb by Sikkam but I forget about river movement and leave it open to attack from another barb (Slave)
- Pompeii is now size one
- Send workers mining mountain by Lhasa to connect up the gold

IBT

- 4 more barb horses appear out of the west; 2 near Iekundo, 2 near Chamdo ? 2 maybe 3 barb camps out there?
- Exposed elephant is not attacked J

Turn 4 (130 AD)

- Golmud; Forge >> Hardy Pioneer
- Gartokh; Elephant >> Ghurka (send elephant to fight western barbs)
- Elephant out of Gartokh kills barb
- Gerze founded on ruins near Spain ? very corrupt, starts on shrine (20)
- Spain has theology
- Assemble 4 elephants + sword in mountains near Pompeii

IBT

- Barb kills Chamdo?s spear and slaughters some of our citizens. Second barb near Chamdo heads back into the mist
- Roman galley drops champion of in mountains near Pompeii attack force

Turn 5 (150 AD)

- Theology >> Warrior Code (4)
- Lhasa Bazaar >> elephant rider
- Leh Ghurka>>Ghurka (Ghurka rushes to undefended Chamdo)
- Sword kills Champ on mountain (slave)
- Elephant kills Champ in woods near Rome (Slave)
- Elephant near Iekundo heads to Chamdo

IBT

- That northwest barb comes back heading south. Another comes out of the West by the goodie hut. 2 move south by Iekundo

Turn 6 (170 AD)

- Elephant kills barb by Chamdo (slave)
- Elephant kills barb by Iekundo (slave)

IBT
- Celts build MoM

Turn 7 (190 AD)

- Elephant kills barb by Iekundo

IBT

- Spain kills barb by Gerze (it take three archers though)

Turn 8 (210AD)

- Lhasa; elephant >> Toll house (2) elephant sent south
- Leh; Ghurka>> Ghurka (Ghurka sent to Golmud)
- Elephant kills barb by Iekundo
- Attack Pompeii (slow due to poor routing on my part)
6/6 elephant vs. 4/4 spear = retreats with no damage
6/6 elephant vs. 4/4 spear = -2 and wins
6/6 elephant vs. 4/4 spear = -4 and wins
- Pompeii is ours! (2 workers)
- Spain have Fundamentalism (quick aside to DocT ? when are Theocracy and fundamentalism worthwhile as governments? The AI will always go for this tech due to the 2 governments it has so all it is, is a speed bump)

IBT

- Another barb comes out of the west

Turn 9 (230AD)

- Warrior code >> Feudalism (4)
- Cozhe; Longship>> Longship (send Longship round to western corner of continent to look for barb camps and a sea connection under that shroud.
- Rush shrine in Pompeii, move out the elephant army
- Longship finds barb camp due east of southern bananas

IBT

- nowt

Turn 10 (250AD)

- Lhasa: Toll house >> temple
- Pompeii riots; set to taxman ? remember to switch it back once road is connected.

Notes

- Colossus due in 1, you may want to change that for something else ? I have no real strong opinions
- I suggest building a temple in Sikkam after the big shiny man is built, then build chitzen itza in Lhasa or Sikkam (20 and 17 turns respectively once the WH becomes obsolete with current improvements ? crop rotation should get Lhasa up to >25spt and Sikkam >30spt. With CI becoming obsolete it 21 techs or 80 turns I think it might be worthwhile)
- Sorry for not finishing off Rome but watch out for those western barbs
- Leh could build the FP in 8 turns?
- Stack of elephants outside Rome needs healing
- There?s an elite elephant in Iekundo.

Have fun.

Nice turns to both Tinkez & Disenfranchised. It would seem that the barbarians are going to be our major opponent on this island. We should probably concentrate on settling all the available lands first, then pay Isabella a visit. While the settling is progressing, getting out a couple of longships to find the rest of the world and leader farming on the remains of Rome should complete the agenda.

If we happen to get a GL, what are the options for him? There are a couple of small wonders available and an elephant army would be quite unstoppable. Are their any wonders we should be encouraging Spain to build for us?

Concentrate on getting the exploring ships out A.S.A.P.!!! We need the contacts to see what is the tech level with other civs.

Also, as we now have gathered a nice Jumbo army, I suggest that we use it now against Spain, not when they are obsolete.

Doc Tsiolkovski said:
I have it; will see what to do (gift some cities to Spain, to make them more competitive, abandon the Capital and so on ;) ).
Yeah, we're doing too good anyway, so some extra difficulties are needed :mischief:

Go for it DocT! :lol:
