Does anyone know exactly what causes it

Remarkably true for tongue-in-cheek.

If I understand your beliefs correctly, if youre right, then I would actually diagnose God as being a complete schizo, not just suffering from depression. He'd have severe DID (dissociative identity disorder), to put it mildly.

I'd like to point out that my suggestions (I cannot comment on the drugs, because a doctor should be doing that) is in agreement with PunkBass's - at least I think so. On an internet forum, we cannot tell you what drugs to take; the best we can do is suggest things that help in regular ways.

Again, I'll recommend timing. Knowing that most of your current (say) depression is due to a cyclical brain issue makes it a lot easier to deal with. You can clinically analyse that the depressions are being caused by a disease and not by an actual suckage of life. The knowledge is a big step.

It's like knowing that you're missing an arm, to use the poster's example. Life sucks when you're missing an arm, but it's important to realise that suckage of not having an arm varies based on where you are in your environment.

:hmm: Who made the diagnosis? God?

Dude, your question is so inane, I'm tempted to just carry on with non-sequiturs. But for your sake, I will qualify.

Asking when the first diagnosis of bipolar disorder was made is like asking when the first crazy person was identified. (no offense to the bipolars in the room)

Taking responsibility is very difficult. Few people do it and most generally rage against the idea. Nonetheless, it fixes problems like no other action.

EDIT: Incidentally, I don't know that "responsibility" is something that could be Scientifically tested.
I'm all for taking responsibility, it's just not a solution. The problem still exists, and will always exist. People must learn to live with it, and taking responsibility is part of it.

So can alcohol, whores and gambling. And those won't generally increase your likelihood of shooting up your classmates like psych drugs can.
There are psychological drugs that can help people. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean noone else can be helped.

You don't have bipolar either.
No, but I've had basic education on it and do know people who are helped by drugs.

You're wrong.
Okay, then what's the cure?

It depends on how severe the depression is. Of course, if the person is suicidal medication might be necessary, although Ive heard that some of these anti depressants actually make some people more suicidal.
I'm talking about bipolar disorder not depression.

Indeed, there are accounts for bipolar like behavior sense the beginning o' time.

Thank you.

I suspect there was a time when bipolar was "discovered" and diagnosed. I'm not asking for the first incident, just the first time it was recognized and classified as "bipolar".
