Does anyone know why my mod didnt work..?

I have changed all non-european civs to europeans ones: Poland, Hungary, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Holland. It all worked quite well until about 500AD, when suddenly the game crashed... Anyone know what that could be? The map is one I downloaded from somewhere.

I would be very greatful if anyone with more knowledge than me can tell whats wrong.

I also tried copy tool, and added civs instead of overwriting them, that totally crashed right after the first turn?
 
It would be so great playing at this detailed map with more european civs than England, France, Rome, Greece, German, Russian...

and the save game file is:
 
did'ya add/replace any special units?
other than renaming civs, what else did you do that might cause the game to flaw?
 
Hi great to see some response:

- Increased Road Movement to 4 because of this huuuge map.
- Added three governments: Social Democracy, Fascism, Fundamentalism and National Socialism + I changed Anarchy into Revolutionary war.
- Added a new world size: Huge - 255 x 256, number of civs: 16, Distance between civs: 20, Optimal number of cities: 50, Tech Rate: 400.
- Changed civs: Babylonians into Norwegians, Chinese into Ottoman Empire, American into Spanish, Japanese into Polish, Indian into Hungarians, Persian into Dutch, Aztecs into Portogese, Zulu into Swedish, Iroquis into Danish. Changed for the nations, cities, leaders, leader name.
- Chance of rioting: 30%

This is at least what I can think of. Worked great for a while though, I was Norway and had settled most of southern and mid Norway.

Basicly it is the same file as I use in ordinary playing, but I then have only original civs, road movement and not the world size named Giga.

As mentioned earlyer I have also tried The copytool, but then the game crashed right after the first turn: I then added all these civs mentioned earlyer and played at this map.

Found the map at another site (Apolyton?) it is realy great, just did a few additions/changes and starting positions for Denmark and Sweden.

I am not very into the editing business, in CivII there was scenarios so I didn't have to, but I would realy love to play in Europe, with just European civs, wouldent like America or China starting in Norway for instance.

But the best would of course be if no nations were overwritten (therefore I tried Copytool too) but I saved this as a scenario so that i could play other civs in ordinary games.
 
did you possibly rename any units?
if you rename a unit you also need to rename the folder and the .ini file, if you dont the game crashes when you try to build it.

Njet, I havent renamed any units, I think...

But I have an idea why it may have crashes, could it have something to do with the map: to many cities? a civ building a city on the border of the map?? Is there a limit to how many cities can be built? What happened if (the limit is 400) and I try to settle the 401 city for instance?

hard to believe someone did so though... 400 is a big number
 
thanks for trying to help me, I wanted to play on this map realy bad, but with 16 (european) civs. This map would be great for scenarios though.
 
I think I may have gotten it to work... I changed the name of the file into civ3mod.bic - at least the tech tree is OK, so perhaps it wont crash anymore.
 
It worked just great. But I have another question, I'm considering patching the game now since I just finished my game, will old mods still work, or do I have to make all changes one more time?

The patch does not really affect your mod. If you leave your modified Civ3mod.bic in the Civ3 folder while patching, the patch will just add something to it and all modification is intact. However, this way you will not have a copy of the unmodified Civ3mod.bic post patch (which is what happen to me :p). But I manage to get papajohns to post me a copy :D

So if you need the unmodified one just let me know ;)
