Does Anyone Still Play This Game????

I've owned it for forever but just started playing it in the last several weeks.

Chuft - ditto. But I don't feel secure with it...I love Civ (have been playing Civ IV which made me dig it out of my old university boxes still unpacked in the cupboard - I graduated in 2001!!!) but think at the moment I cope better with historical reality than with a potential space future.

I'm willing to learn though.

I've restarted playing AC four times now. Every other time the game felt new to me as I never managed to remember the effects of each science and details of the story plot. Every first new game gave me a sense of virgin planet exploration (as the plot is meant to be). I've always constructed eco friendly, well integrated societies with manufacture kept in space, that often kept peace-keeping roles on all continents (much is what America was or is now). Funny but most of my first games are with University.
After the first game, I normally try to beat my score and later play one role-play game with each of the factions. After that the interest vanishes until some space novel gets me back to AC. That happens once every year.

I've just started! I picked it up at a car boot sale last weekend. One stall, their was all the Civs, the 2 CTP's, around a dozen SimX games and this. I guess the person selling had decided to go cold turkey. Or had bought a Mac. As an experianced Civ II player, the learning curve was around an hour, and I twigged that the engine was nearly the same when I saw the AI making some of the same moves I expected in Civ II, and the '255 in production' bug that occours on both games' military advisors.

After playing it for a couple of days - I really appreciated it's depth. It's not just a 'Civ II on AC', but a game in it's own right. Some of the developments I know and love on Civ III started out on SMAC.

I just started playing civ2 again and am desperately trying to find my SMAC CD. I got bored fast with civ 3 and 4, I just didnt enjoy them anywhere near as much. I spent ages last year trying to to find SMAX but couldnt. They really need to re release the game and expansion on the sold out range.

Chances of that happening are rather slim I'm afraid. You could try keeping tabs on eBay (but you are doing that allready, yes?) and find out if you live near an old-skool computer game shop. Most of them do a damm better customer service than the chains of the world, as well as more enerprising stock-sources. But just keep looking in strange places! After over a year of searching, I finally found a new copy of Operation Flashpoint in a pawn shop....

I doubt that it will make it to a re-release just yet. AC is much more a cult than other titles, which really does not do it justice. Personally, I would of bundled it with the civ collection that came out a while back. It's more worthy of that association that CTP ever was.

I have not only just started playing it in 2008, but I have also started modding it. For me, it's a new game.

Whad did Believers do to you?!

I actually like Alpha Centauri more than Civ 4, though the latter probably has more replayability due to the large number of scenarios and mods. If I had to choose between the regular games, I'd take Alpha Centauri.

I'm rather fond of the option where you can't direct the research (you just tell them what category you want to work on and then see what you get), and I've found the diplomacy much more interesting. It's pretty much impossible to be everyone's friend in Alpha Centuari. Even on the lowest difficulties, they are very aggressive, while I've played games of Civ 4 without getting into a single war at all.

Refound SMACX after years and playing it on Vista.
Still one of the greatest !

Fully agree with postings above:
1. researching and compiling your own units is an asset;
2. the agressiveness is far better than at the regular CIV's.

But I also play CIV all the time.

Since old Colonization can be renewed in CIV4, why not SMAC/SMACX as well?
But do not let them change the music/sounds!

Oh, I haven't in a while. Not since I got Civ 4. Everytime my interest has waned, they released an expansion. But, my level of obsession with BtS is finally stretching, so I'll probably break out Alpha Centauri pretty soon.

I really pushed myself in Civ4 which, embaressingly, I'd never really done before.

I played Civ1-3 and AC mostly on the easiest difficulty levels, never wanting to part from my 'Peaceful Builder' ways. But, I have now achieved two impressive victories on Prince difficulty in 4. Even getting compared, for the first time, to Augustus Caesar. Woot!

I look forward to applying my new-found strength to good old AC.

Still playing it, still Provost Zakharov... though I've lately spread out into playing more factions.

Hi I desperately need to find a copy of this game as well as the Alien Crossfire expansion FOR MAC. Is it still possible to get a reasonable price?

Ah, I see.
Then could it be possible to hum, download it? I don't really need the manual, the cd or all that, I just wanna play that great game again. :D

We know nothing about 'That Which Must Not Be Downloaded'. I suggest looking at torrents, but I do not condone or suggest you break any copyright agreements in doing so. That would be bad. =o

This is one of the few games that is hard to download in working condition. I would rather try online shopping.
