Does Rhye's and Fall work?

Hey everyone,

I had a sweet game of R&F going, then I decided to update to 3.19 and things got buggy. I'm on a 2.33 ghz macbook pro, running 10.6.1. I'm hoping that someone here can lead me back to the path. Now when I open BTS, it opens fine, then I select my save game, it then boots R&F, it gets through the original load to the screen with the world map.

At this point one of two things happens: either it just bugs then and I get pinwheel which leads to death, or it goes to the saved game loan screen at which point it bugs at initialization.

I realize that I haven't provided anywhere near enough information. So, please let me know what information I should provide, and, importantly, how to get that information.

I've read a few posts, and so I opened CivilizationIv.ini with a text editor and have change "LoggingEnabled = 0" to "LoggingEnabled = 1"

Not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

So I just got BTS a few days ago, and I'm interested in playing Rye's & Fall as the French 600 AD. It sits at "automated turns left: 15" forever. I checked forums, and read these. Any word on a fix from Rye or Aspyr or anyone??? It looks like a fun mod.

Iamliberal: Assuming you've got the problemt hat I had, you just press enter. You'll start with a settler and a warrior; just tell them to hold position for 15 turns and you'll get your historical start soon enough.

ogreprodigy, thanks! i saw other people posted saying they played and then it sort of reset later, didn't think to just hit return over and over myself lol. :crazyeye:

i'll try it out now...

I hate that I can't just begin as the Romans in 750 BC, but have to keep hitting enter manually again and again from 3000 BC onward until it's time to play. There must be some other way?

i know this thread hasn't been active for a while, but I have this problem, but as I bought my game with Steam, I cannon not patch. Has a real solution been found yet?

The medicine is as bad (or worse) than the symptoms. It involves Bootcamping Windows, and installing PC Steam Civ IV.

It's easy to fix.

Install BTS again, in a different location. Now you have 2 BTS's. 3.19 and whatever version. Take the RFC from the newly installed one and place it in the folder for the 3.19 BTS.

Delete the now-RFC-lacking Civ. Voila!

My Mac has Civ4 Gold, patched BtS 3.19, RFCB 1187, and jmerry's RFC Mac bugfix patch 1.2.

I decided to patch my way up the evolutionary ladder because I got fed up with how the merc button often causes the game to crash--especially frustrating when playing as Carthage!

Now with all these patches and fix, whenever the game starts to load RFC 1187, I get this non-fatal error message:

===

XML Load Error

Failed Loading XML file xml\text
\civ4gametext_fourthroundtranslation.xml[/AspyreBuild/

After choking on this for a while, the game loads up. It plays well--I find I can push the merc button on the very first turn and it won't blow up! So then as Carthage I sail forth and capture Athens, then wait around a few turns before checking the merc pane for mercs. There aren't any. I wait many more turns. Still no mercs.

Figuring that there might not be any mercs at all, I set out to take Sur from Babylon. The siege is getting hot when I notice some obvious merc units working for Babylon. So there =are= mercs, I just can't see them on my pane!

Granted, there might not be a connection between the XML Load Error and the missing mercs, but those are the only two clues I've got so far.

I'm hoping someone can help me with this!

To clarify, no version of Rhye's other than the one shipped with BTS will work on Mac, and even that doesn't work properly without jmerry's fix. This is because Rhye's and most other major mods require a custom DLL which are completely unsupported on Mac. Aspyr included Rhye's (and Road to War) as a separate binary (effectively bundling the DLL) inside the main BTS application and these cannot be updated or made compatible with the Windows versions.

Thanks Rhye and Xyth for answering the question so quickly.

Okay, so I uninstalled BtS completely, as per disc instructions.

I installed BtS from disc. It runs, but yes, the merc button (even hovering the pointer near it) causes the game to crash fairly often (seemingly 100% on first game turn).

I installed Patch BtS 3.19. It runs, but Carthage starts at Turn 0 rather than at its proper start.

I installed jmerry's Bugfix Mac. While loading it gives two XML errors and freezes up.

With that second one, about Feature Mud, hitting the okay button just brings back the same message, over and over again.

So it has gone from "buggy" to "broken."

Any help on this one?

The answer seems to be to uninstall BTS and Civ4 Gold and to reinstall everything: Civ4 Gold, BTS, BTS 3.19 patch, and jmerry's bugfix patch.

It only takes an hour. (Then again, I've gotten perhaps too much practice lately!)

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks Rhye for a great mod.

i'd been hammering away w/ the romans (seemed strange to start in 3000BC...) i'd been doing terrific - acheiving my goals at a steady rate; i couldn't wait for 450 to roll around! then 760BC and rome disintegrates into a bunch of crap i don't really need! wth?! ahhhh... so then i see everybody has this problem.... & i'm a steam-bought person, too... dang.

yeah, this is a real bummer, man! there's no patch we can use?!
