does the AI build less wonders on Pangea?

I usually play continents/emperor, but started an immortal/rome/pangea game last night. I was really surprised by how long the wonders were available. I seriously built the great library on turn 102 and bulbed education. Then I got the oracle a couple turns later. I had already built Stonehenge and Hanging Gardens.

If you're wondering why I'm building all these wonders it's because I got stuck in an area surrounded by mountains & City States. There's room for 4 really nice cities, but only 2 iron. There was no other iron nearby through city states or trade, so I had to abandon my dreams of conquest and instead am trying to build my way to victory. I'm doing ok so far, but only because of the ridiculous wonders I've been able to build. This is also my first try on immortal since the patch. So is this a fluke or what???

I play on Pangaea normally, and there's a lot of variation from game to game. Sometimes, wonders go like hotcakes, and other times, no one builds them.

I don't believe the map type makes much of a difference when it comes to AI building wonders. So the answer would be no.

People get the perception that they AI builds 'more' wonders because they build different wonders on pangea. When you remove the sea wonders/buildings it creates less for the ai 'to choose from'.

It also depends on what civilisations you're up against and what their initial winning strategies are early on. Unlike humans, the Civs don't build wonders because they are there, although they do build wonders becuase they know you're going to lose the race by only a few turns!

And don't forget that on oval, or pangaea maps, there is a lot more warmonging going on, less time for the AI to spend hammers on wonders.. They need to spam units.

On higher difficulties production is not an issue for the AI. They can hit maximum saturation quite quickly.

I play Immortal only, small maps though, with a few extra civs, usually I get the wonders I want. There are a lot of wars in my games.
