Domination query

In my current game as Pacal, i've just had the message that i'm at 39.27% and therefore close to domination @ 40%.

Now i've had this once before, but the game just carried on, when i thought i would just 'win' the game.

What's with this domination ?

I use the bat mod if that helps.

To get a Domination victory you need to control a certain percentage of the world's land tiles and population - exactly how much of each depends on a few factors which I don't think the game ever explains, but you can check how much you need at any given point in the victory conditions screen - and that warning is telling you that you're close to one of the two conditions. Going over one of them doesn't do anything, but it can be helpful to know when you've got enough land size/population and could feasibly win the game by running the culture slider/settling some junk arctic cities/plopping down farms everywhere and growing your cities/etc.

I have almost 40% of population, but the other victory condition is 56% of land area, of which i have 'only' 23%.
Guess it'll have to be space race for me then, as i'm well ahead in tech, or just spam the other continent with settlers

Or just conquer more opponents. Note that vassals contribute 50% of their land and population to your totals for domination. (If you vassal everyone else, you win by conquest.)

What determines which victory condition when you meet both dom and conquest conditions? I seem to remember vassaling my final opponent and getting a dom victory.
Other times it was a conquest victory.

50/50 chance whether you get conquest or domination when you qualify for both victory conditions, IIRC.
