Don Quijote rules the world - SG for RFC

If you think we can beat the British, by all means go for physics. Otherwise I think finishing the corporation would be best. The extra trade routes will help us turn our current weakness (too many cities) into an advantage. That's also why I spent most of my time building lighthouses and Customs buildings.

After the corporation, then we should defintely head for Communism+Biology.

Next player: try to finish all the possible monasteries before we steal Sci Method. We can still enjoy the bonus gold and hammers after the monasteries become obsolete, but we can't build them anymore.

I'll just drop in and say that this is easily one of the most interesting SGs as of late. I like the fact that you're playing a mod and that you're keeping a very rapid pace as far as this forum goes.

Good read, hope you'll do more of the similar sort. Perhaps a game with Rise of Mankind? :)

I'm glad that the SG has met a positive feedback and don't worry...if there is an interest after this one is done, I will definately make another. Not sure about RoM though - looks very complicated to me :)

This sounds reasonable to me. So if we're faster than English, we go: Physics, Communism, Corporation; if not then Corporation, Communism, Biology.

Yes, I will try my best...however, I will not delay Sci method just because of that, as we really want to win the Physics race.

EDIT: I will play my set tomorrow in the morning

England already knows Sci Method; our spy has been stationary for 3 turns so we are two turns from learning Sci Method. So I don't think we will be building anymore monasteries.

Ororo,

I checked the save. We don't even have christianity in our new cities, so don't worry about it, just get scientific method. It's not that big of a deal.

About the races: I think we can win the GSci and the GSpy. The british are going Replaceable parts and the malinese have too poor research to beat us with 100% science slider. Maybe put two turns of espionage in mali to see what they are researching.

We can vassalize Khmer if we want, they are willing to. They broke free from India somehow. Khmer does not expand that much, I guess, but we can use their land as a starting point to our japanese war.

They were actually Chinese Vassals, they broke away when Egypt respawned and started that new war.

Khmer is good for vassal--if and when England colonizes Australia, you can conquer those cities and liberate them to Khmer.

You can probably use some health and happiness resources from Khmer too (like bananas, silk, spices).

Lurker's comment:

I see that Turkey is researching Replaceable Parts in 12 turns. I switch our small number of beakers to the Corporation.

I believe that you took Turkey as your vassal; do you know that you can direct their scientific research ?

AFAIK this is incorrect; Monastery after being obsoleted only retain their missionary building effect (besides culture, which is a given for all buildings anyway).

Actually I think it is correct, at least for the hammers from the Apostolic Palace. I've counted hammers for my cities in the past and found that after Sci Meth, the hammer bonus is still being generated by my existing Monasteries.

I've not checked whether the Spinal Minaret and the University of Sankore effects are similar in their "non-obsolescence" though. I've seen my tech rate drop significantly in the past once I learnt Sci Meth that I believe that the beakers bonus does become obsolete.

England is not our vassal. If you look at the screenshot, they are Islamic Kingdom of England. We discussed making them our vassal if the opportunity arose, but they are currently too powerful.

That's because monateries give 10% bonus to science. I know that you lose this bonus when you tech Scientific method.

Right. I checked back and confirmed.

I did not vassalize anyone and honestly, I regret it now. The economy is soso and will stay like that until we build the Forbidden Palace.

We should have vassalized England, IMO.

Here's the report:

Turn 0: Monastery whipped in Ciudad Real and in Veracruz.
Khmer vassalized, which means war with Arabia, Egypt and Babylonia.
Espionage switched towards Malinese for 2 turns.

Turn 1: Madrid finishes Jail, next spy (so there's always one in England). Nueva Iberia finishes Custom House, next University.
New source of Silver discovered near Rosario :) This city's gonna rock...

Turn 2: Madrid finishes spy, next Conquistador. Melilla finishes Frigate, next Galleon. Workers from Melilla loaded on Galleons and sent towards North America.
A new GG is born (from fighting Natives in N. America), I'll use him on a Frigate, which is currently in Carribean.
We steal Sci Method from English. Malinese are researching Communism but are nowhere near to it, I redirect espionage back against English.
I set research to 100% and start on Physics. It will take 8 turns and consume most of our treasury..

Turn 3: Amsterdam finishes Custom House, next University. Berlin finishes Grocer, next Observatory. Rosario finishes lighthouse, next Library.
GG used on the Frigate, which means we have an escort for Colombus.
Madrid finishes Conquistador, next Conquistador.
Alexander has a monopoly on Democracy.

Turn 4: English research Replaceable parts, next Rifling. Good, we'll steal both from them.
Rosario finishes Library, next University. Chicago finishes Courthouse, next Library.
Great Artist is born in Amsterdam, he culture-bombs it. We get 3 more workable tiles in our BFC.

Turn 5: Madrid finishes Conquistador, next Wealth. Melilla finishes Galleon, next Wealth. Olximche finishes Bank, next University. Ciudad Real finishes work boat, next Christian Temple.
Defensive Pact is signed with France for extra Stability.

Turn 6: A congress is held in 2 turns, we are invited.
Cadiz finishes Trading company, next Customs House. Veracruz finishes Customs house, next Library. Nueva Iberia finishes Univeristy, next Observatory. Chicago finishes Observatory, next University.
Vercingetorix sinks Arabian Caravel near Melilla.

Turn 7: We don't bribe anyone, we need our gold.
Santiago finishes Conquistador, next Wealth. Quivira finishes Courthouse, next Library.

Turn 8: A Congress of Athenai is held.

Spoiler :

(I forgot to take a screen of Chinese demand but they didn't get it anyway)
Berlin finishes Observatory, next Barracks.

Turn 9: We research Physics and are the first ones to do so, whic means we receive a free GS. Next Communism (will finish in 4 turns). Rosario finishes University, next Observatory. I recommend building an Academy in Amsterdam.

Turn 10: We steal Replaceable Parts from English.
Berlin finishes Barracks, next Stable. Veracruz finishes Library, next Christian Temple. Yiqui finishes Customs House, next Library. Quivira finishes Library, next University.
Ooops, there's already an Academy in Amsterdam, so GS heads back to Santiago (although Nueva Iberia would probably be a better choice for Academy...blizzrd, you decide)
We sign Peace with Arabia and get their World map and 3gpt.

Now, I know it's been a boring infrastructure-building set but we couldn't really afford to wage war atm. Besides, I think our reseach is now higher than it was before Sci Method - the infrastructure did have some effect after all :)
