Trump dosnt even know what hes own Trade war goals are. Or that the US car manufacturers are sitting on a subprime car loans time bomb. Its looks like Trump is still either clueless about what hes steel tariff effects are or hes deluding himself that he is going to be able to get better deal by waging multiple trade wars. The Middle class Chinese viewed US cars as a status symbol and Trumps well and truly put paid to that market. Add to this the steel tariffs price increases the US car manufacturing more expensive are going to lose even more foreign market share.

Trump is going to do these tariffs no matter what the EU offer it should be obvious by now
I hoping Trump escalates all the trade wars perceiving weakness and not the looming economic pain

Donald Trump says EU offer to scrap auto tariffs 'not good enough'

Washington
| President Donald Trump rejected a European Union offer to scrap tariffs on cars, likening the bloc's trade policies to those of China.

"It's not good enough," Trump said of the offer from Brussels during an Oval Office interview with Bloomberg News. "Their consumer habits are to buy their cars, not to buy our cars."

Trump's comments come just hours after Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom told European Parliament lawmakers that the EU would be "willing to bring down even our car tariffs to zero, all tariffs to zero, if the US does the same". Autos were previously excluded from the discussions that focused on manufactured products bought and sold between the two markets.

"The European Union is almost as bad as China, just smaller," Trump said.

Trump has ordered his Commerce Department to investigate whether car imports imperil national security, under the same provision he invoked to impose global tariffs on steel and aluminium earlier this year. The president has indicated he could impose tariffs of as much as 25 percent on the foreign-made autos.

The House Ways and Means Committee is planning to release legislation outlining a second round of tax cuts in September. Kudlow has pushed for capital gains indexing to be included in that package

Yeah, by now it should be obvious to every foreign government that the best way is just to sit out two more years and restart real talks with the American government once there is a new one.

In his mind, Trump must always win and his opponent must always lose - doing a quid pro quo deal where the EU and the US both drop auto tariffs isn't good enough for him in his weird way of thinking.

All he wants is for all American and European consumers to stop buying European cars and products of any kind and only buy American. America First!

So, will have to buy american cars or get nuked by el trumpo? Ok i give up, but let me see the product first...

Especially considering that originally:

Trump suggest dropping all tariffs
Trump tells G-7 to consider doing away with all tariffs
Trump calls for elimination of all tariffs

So essentially, the EU has called his bluff and he folded.

Exactly. But since he plays by his own rules, he'll never acknowledge it. And neither will his supporters.

Why are people still getting this wrong ?
He's not just suggesting that we all remove our tariffs, he wants all trade barriers gone. That means he'll only win if the EU lowers safety, fuel efficiency and emission standards to America's level.

exactly that and more of the same
any trade interference from national laws and regulations of foreign nations should get the same "level" as the US to get truly free trade (for especially big corporate).
And the government interference of the US on business is meanwhile driven down by him.
Increasing the national public debt of the US alligned to that because it transfers national wealth from "the people" by the government towards national wealth to the individual people, which flows per money transaction relatively more towards the very rich people.

Everywhere the regular people are the losers. Not just the working class. Only the top 1% of the US are really benefitting in terms of income and wealth. But climate, environment, health, happiness worse for everyone that attaches value to that.
And if the US people believe in such a development as being good, it is up to them.
But the EU should never, ever give in to that process.
