New US tariffs kick in on $16 billion of Chinese goods

Japan is tired waiting politely on the exemption from Trump on the Steel Alu tariffs and made two stategic moves towards China. It did not help to stay quiet which the EU did not.

So... Abe visited China and came quietly back with two strategic moves away from the interests of the US.
A currency swap arrangement and giving up the resistance against the Belt and Road initiative.
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan and China on Friday signed a currency swap arrangement of up to $30 billion - the largest such bilateral deal concluded by Tokyo - to strengthen financial stability and spur business activity in both countries, the Bank of Japan said.

The other move is a package of 50 deals to invest together with China in third countries, that will most likely allign with the Belt & Road initiative.
