Let me start off by saying I don't hate steam. I have nothing at all against steam. If you want to buy your games through steam, more power to you. But I am against Civ 5 requiring steam to play. I'll be straightforward. I'm 15 years old. My family only has the internet on the living room computer. I don't have an internet connection on my gaming computer and our internet computer is junk-you can't play games on it. So if Civ 5 is steam only, I can't play it. And another thing. If Firaxis is going to release civs and maps as DLC, what about modding? I can go right now and download a ton of custom civs from this site, and not pay a dime. Why would I download DLC when I can do that? Well, I think this means there will be limited modding options. Just my 2 cents, but...
Anyway please don't make Civ 5 steam only. I really want to play it. I know there are others against steam only, for different reasons. And even those of you who are for steam in Civ 5, think of poor people like me who are to be deprived of Civ 5. For those of you who are against it, go to this link http://www.firaxis.com/company/gamefeedback.php and send Firaxis a comment about it. Please, make it where we can all play Civ 5. :please::please::please:

you only need to connect ONCE, surely you can haul your computer to it for less a couple minutes

"steam" I don't use it.
I've heard too many bad things about it.
I prefer my games the old fashioned way, on a hard medium I can keep and install, and reinstall as my computer gets upgraded.

You probably don't understand how Steam works or you wouldn't dislike it.

Try it yourself, there's over 1000 free demos on the service and you can connect with friends and social media really easily.

Don't you only require steam for the steam version? I think Majesty 2's and Dragon Age's fanbases did this too; they got riled up over the misconception that all versions of their game would require steam access.

I think how it works is either Firaxis or Take2 decides on the base amount of anti-piracy measures and then the different distributors like steam and gamersgate are free to add more (steam requiring connection).

No, you need to activate it through Steam and keep Steam open in the background for the disc version too.

Steam is by far the best option out there for DRM. One time activation is so much more convenient than the constant connection required by the new system Ubisoft crapped out for Settlers. There is no way that Take 2 or any large publisher is going to release a PC game without some form of copy protection, so just be thankful that we are getting the best one.

I understand it, I have used it. I don't like it.

Something like gamersgate is a much better digital service.

Are you affiliated with Steam?
