Don't miss the train!

How do I unlock Tenets?

DaNuke, you should check out this featurette. Skip to about 46 seconds and watch closely. There are bonus tenets for being an early adopter. You acquire future tenets just like social policies.

...If you really want to suplex that train, 3 factories is probably going to be the best way.

...One important aspect which hasn't been mentioned is that we don't know how the AI is going to select their ideologies. If they tend to select the ideology of other Civs they like, then you will definitely want to be the first to it, as your allies will follow suit.

However, if the AI is going to select their ideology based solely or mainly on "egoistic" reasons (i.e., what suits their strategy, even if it means landing in another camp than their current ally), then it might be useful to postpone the selection of your ideology in order to make sure you are friends with the right civs.

Good points. It may or may not be a race worth winning for diplomatic reasons. Interesting.

This also poses an interesting quandry for the human player as well. If you're on later side picking your Ideology, and all your friends took the one that doesn't help for your victory condition, what do you choose? You can aid your VC or keep your friend on your good side.

I wonder if competitive multiplayer will be all about getting the free tenets or if it will actually be better for some victories to just avoid having to deal with ideology competitions and go with the most popular ideology.

I'm curious if this will be mirrored between single and multiplayer or completely different once the human factor gets in there.

Regarding coal, factories, and getting an Ideology ASAP.

I doubt that AI will pick his ideology just on the basis of the curent relationship with you. It wouldnt ad any changes to the ongoing game basicly puting the diplomacy in cement.
Also the AI would lose much of its strenght by doing so making your friendship a bad thing economicaly and we all know that interest is the main thing in diplomacy. In other words civilizations arent your friends because of your bright and shining personality but because you are in a geostrategic position that favors their economy/military to be friends with you (in most cases IRL). On the other hand if leaders picked ideologies that suit their play then it would end up pretty interesting. Diplomatic strain with your old allies might resolt in an unplaned war, one that could force you to befriend that old nemesis of yours. :D

Well in my opinion 2 bonus tenents are worth investing in and chosing it over scientific theory or the new "player'' archeology. Tenents seem a bit more powerfull than policies and even if they were the same power it is basicly 2x Oracle in the industrial era or a couple thousand of culture points. The other bonus is that you can chose a second tier tenet while others are geting first tiers and those 2nd tenents a quite powerfull.
So in multyplayer it does make an viable choice if not the optimal one.

Kudos to Hulking Lummox for reminding me: the race for Great Works. By our current knowledge, it gets started at three different techs: Guilds, Drama&Poetry and Acoustics for Great Artists, Writers and Musicians, respectively. The player who is the first to reach those techs and finish the associated National Wonders will get the first masterpieces and thus be in a cultural advantage.

Hm maybe. Great works are obtained throug great ppl witch have incrised cost as you get more of them so even if you skip a 30 - 40 turns on those you still be only one or 2 GW behind witch is 2-10 tourism per turn behind. I dont know will it be worth rushing for.

My guess is that GWAMs spawn from a separate pool and that earning them will be faster than earning Great People usually is (pre-BNW). All this fuss about Great Works would be pretty pointless if there were only a dozen in the whole world!

That makes sense, at least for musicians and writters. Don't know about artists because they keep the golden age poping that was presumably balanced with the other GPpl. In any case i would look forward to more GW. :D
Not the topic but if they rebalanced GWAM to spawn more often and they lower time of GA golden ages but make them more abundant, Persia (one of my favorite civs) would get a strategic buff ! Yay ! :D

a tech civ could easily pick scientific theory over industrialization, and rush Radio, which, with a high enough tech output, could be even faster (especially if u just happen to have a great scientist).
