Don't see the faith symbol on desert tiles?

I'm using desert folklore and I'm smack in the middle of a desert, desert tiles all around. I got it super early because of religion CS's gifting me it. I don't see any faith tiles though and I'm only getting +1 faith a turn (which I'm getting from a Shrine).

What's the deal? Pretty sure this happened once to me in the past and I never figured out why.

Happened to me last game. I was puzzled until I discovered that somebody had converted my city.

Either your city/capital got converted or what usually happens with non capitals is that they lose the pantheon majority due to growing too fast, thus temporarily these cities will lose the bonus too.

I'm confused, this is the start of the game. I'm the first one to get a Pantheon by a long shot. I only have one city (some people just started getting their second cities). I think only one other person has a Pantheon.

Desert folklore from my experience:
A desert tile gives faith when its being actively worked by the citizen.
so a hill, farm, or luxury desert tile will yield a faith point a turn in addition to what it normally yields.

It happens when you adopt a Pantheon belief while your Capital population is less than 3, its not really good to take Panthen very early in the game, Beacause its effect might be worthless when you dont have enough population on your City to follow that belief. Also its less likely to happen, because the first faith producing building (shrine) is on Pottery which you will research first before you could built it, its about 20-27 turns before you could produce your first faith, which your capital might already have 3-5 population (unless you have faith producing NW inside your border, or you are playing as Celts, Maya or the Ethiopia),or it maybe you meet a Religious type CS very early on the game (turn 5-15).
well you could reload your game, dont meet the CS first or dont built the Shrine first until you have the enough population to follow it.

EDIT: as you said your start in the desert, I dont think its about the Pantheon type, for sure your Capital dont have enough population.

Go to the City screen and open Citizen Management (top right) and see what tiles your citizens are working. If it is too early in the game for your city to have lost its pantheon, your citizens are probably working non-desert tiles. You can manually reassign them now, or work food tiles until the city grows large enough for its extra citizens to work your desert tiles.

I'm in the middle of a desert though. All the tiles I have are desert tiles except one, which is an Oasis (I just recently got a plain or 2, but I'm not having any citizens on them for testing purposes). I have a population of 4 now.

If you have improvements like farms and what not, does that mean you won't get faith from it? It still says it's a desert tile, so I don't see why it'd make a difference.

I'm at turn 48.

K, here's a snap shot. Please tell me what I am doing wrong :P. If you need another shot or something let me know.

From that screenshot it looks like there is no religion/pantheon in that city. Let us have another screenshot of the normal view (not city screen) and the religion overview.

I noticed that it doesn't have the Pantheon symbol as well. I did put my cursor over the city and saw there was only one follower, does that mean that it merely did not spread enough yet? It's a little strange since I've had the Pantheon since the city was 1 or 2 people deep :p.

Assuming my problem has to do with that 1 follower, what exactly the determines the rate at which a Pantheon grows?

Yeah, it's pretty unusual for a capital to not have the majority to actually have the pantheon.
Guess that mostly happens when you get the pantheon super early where you also grow super fast and/or when you additionally get a pop ruin.

I have no idea at all how fast a pantheon or even a religion spreads (how many turns etc).

Your city grew faster than your pantheon influence. Another problem is when you adopt a religion and it is overtaking your pantheon. I have seen a city lose its pantheon bonus because 1/2 of the population followed the pantheon and 1/2 followed the religion the pantheon became and neither was dominant. It seemed like a bug to me.

"We all believe in Desert Folklore, but as long as those lot over there want to build a Cathedrial, we refuse to go out into the desert and pray!"

"Splitters!

Did by any chance Marrakech starve at any point after adopting the Pantheon?

Pantheons grow with the city to keep the majority (same with religion) however several months back somebody noticed that if you lose population you also lose the base number of Pantheon followers and at one point you will actually LOSE the Pantheon status.

So in other words, Marrakech no longer follows your pantheon effectively. Your only bet is to expand to a second city and make sure that doesn't starve.

And no, you cannot raise your pantheon level. Your only best bet is to rush to get a religion somehow (Hagia Sophia, Liberty finisher etc).

Never seen anything like that!

But yeah, it's due to lack of majority. Did you just recently get a population ruin or two?
