I usually self-label as a geek, but according to Yuri's definitions I'm a nerd with social skills and a bit of geekness.

I've always thought the only difference between geek and nerd was the presence of social skills.

I embarrased them later by asking them questions about things like wheres denmark or italy and you would be suprised what they said.
I'd like to know what they said! Do they think Denmark is a town in Sweden?

Anyway, Im way too cool to be a nerd

I was pretty much ostracized at school. A new species - the female nerd! :joke:
Oh, they've long been theorized to exist, but only recently has observational evidence caught up with old predictions regarding the subject. Further investigation is clearly required, how's your wednesday looking? ;)

Could someone plz tell me the defintions of these things?
I know what a nerd is but, dork, geek, playa', jock, prat, wdf? do all these mean?

If you don't know what dork or geek mean, I'm fairly sure you don't self-identify as either.

I provided tentative definitions of the three terms addressed by this thread in my first post. Thus far, most have been willing to apply them in labelling their identity.

The definitions I've come to know for the three:

Nerd - Highly intelligent, but socially awkward and physically unfit. Ex - That guy who can rattle off the first 50 digits of Pi and e from memory, while alternating between them, is a nerd.

Geek - Obsessive over some normally trivial aspect of their lives. Ex - A hardcore Trekkie is a geek.

Dork - Honestly, these people just plain suck. Devoid of social skill or intellect, should be isolated and culled from the gene pool. Ex - A fair number of OT residents.
I don't think any of these fit me. In fact, I feel somewhat out of place around here. I guess I belong to the land of the Misfit Toys or idiots.

Do people expect you to be athletic? Because I am not athletic in the sense that I am good at sports, just fanatical so that I end up being good. Especially at running involving activities.

Always nice for them to underestimate you... :)

Nope, when I moved I actually had a bunch of people tell me, amazed, how i don't look athletic. I'm small, quiet, shy, and generally uninterested in sports but talented. I never try, never practive, never work out but somehow I'd always be the one getting homeruns and making fools of anyone I wanted to when i chose. It actually was really fun in gym to briefly actually play seriously and deflate the egos of many jocks. Especially in Freshmen vs. Upperclassmen dodgeball. The Seniors actually respected me because I'd usually take 3-4 of them down with me. Oh, I miss the days of gym. :( But, generally I am a nerd. I like computer games, teh internet, history, politics, and rarely care much for how i look. When I care to be, I look like a Harry Potter with contacts but i rarely care to get my hair right, etc. I'm halfway (ok, more to the left) between my brothers; geek and Neo-like cosmopolitan.

BTW-I checked out the "official" definitions. I'm a nerd who can be social when I want to (generally i'm either too shy or teh other extreme, too arrogant) and am athletic, again, when i want to be. My normal state is to not do sports or be social but when i feel like it I can.

BTW2-Yes, I'm very intelligent. but I can't type at all so I tend to missspell a lot of things especially the dreaded "teh".
