Double Secret Probation

Once upon a time there was a boy. He had a "special" friend that nobody else could see. His friend's name was Igor.

One night, after attending the local football game, the boy came home and went to "sleep". Igor, however, wasn't tired. He went digging in the fridge and found a "certain element" called beer. Well the beer smelled nice. It tasted nice too. So, igor had another. That one smelled nice and tasted nice too. So, he had another. Igor briefly diverted for a trip to the loo to shake his sword (whatever that means) and then he had another. You get the picture.

The Igor found the boy's prized computer had been left on. In all of Igor's life, this had never happened. The boy had always been very careful about turning the computer off and putting it where Igor couldn't find it, but, tonight, the boy was "tired" and went to sleep without putting away his toys (Aesop write this down, maybe you can get a fable out of it).

Igor was fascinated with the pretty colors of the computer so he decided to change things. He changed Groningen to a settler, wasting 12 shields in the process; he changed Eindhoven to a duct; and he changed The Hague (is that like an ancient crone?) to a settler.

Being a simple idiot, Igor had no idea what he had done. So he watched lots of pretty boats sail around twice. Being simple, Igor decided that watching the boats wasn't enough so he decided to sell engineering to the funny man called Mao in the fur hat. The funny fur hat guy was so pleased that he gave igor 3gpt, 27g, and some useless trinket called Monarchy.

Igor then watched the pretty boats sail some more.

In 290AD, Igor decided he need some more money to keep up the research (whatever that is; it sure wasn't anywhere near as big as his spear). So, he sold the Republic to the Maya for 45g.

This game wasn't nearly as fun as it was the first time, so Igor watched the boats some more. That was getting boring so Igor decided to press the button marked "B" on the toy, thinking it would make the growling polar bear appear. The bad bear failed to appear, but a new city popped out, like a bun from an oven. Igor called the new city iron delft since he thought that meant brainiac. Then igor went for another one of those beer thingys.

In 330AD, Igor sold dyes to Pachutti for 120g. igor was really tired of that pink color so he popped a GH and lo what to his wandering eyes should appear but three vandals. Igor killed one cause they were mean.

Mean pink guy came calling in 340 and demanded Igor's lunch money. Being simple, and wishing to preserve the internal harmonics of the world, Igor caved to the big bad pink bully.

Then Igor drew a picture.

Igor spent lots of time on his picture but he wasn't happy with the result. He wondered if a "jester" could explain how to resize?

Igor was very proud of his playing so he decided to let everyone else see it

he who shall not be named shall eventually be destroyed

Any chance Igor can work up a brain transplant for me? This one's excellent at maths and stuff, but I'm ready for a trade-in. MIA has now ended, and sanity has been restored for now. Sorry about the disappearing act.

Whoops, am I up? Sorry, didn't realize it. I'll play tomorrow, hopefully. Unless sanabas wants to go now.

(the new Edit is strange!)

Um, well, I tried to play, but I can't find the save. I quoted AK, and the save is there. I tried pasting the link into the URL bar, but it still wouldn't work.

Is there something wrong with the Civfanatic's Upload?

Tubby said the civfanatics.net domain is down and that is where the uploads are kept.

AK, could you attach the save?

Also, 1001st post!

I've played 8 turns, but we need to discuss something.

Pre-turn – GL due in 5, that’s good. Doesn’t look like we can self-research anyway. War with Babylon. No iron. We’ll either have to trade Monotheism to Hannibal for Iron and Feud (MDIs…), or wait until we can trade across ocean…oh, or make peace with Babylon. I’ll wait till the GL finishes to see what techs we get (I know we’ll get Feud at least).

IBT – Carthage and Babylon sign a peace treaty. Babylon sends a bowman from Izibia (island with Eindhoven) to attack our wounded sword.

360 (1) – Holwerd harbor->galley. Found Breda -> worker. Switch Eindhoven to a barracks. We don’t need any more workers on this small island, especially with a Babylonian and a Portuguese city here, too.

IBT – Our sword is attacked by a barb, but kills it easily.

370 (2) –

IBT – The bowman attacks our spear in Eindhoven and wins without taking a hit. -_-
China declares war on the Maya!
Damn. Carthage completes the Great Lib in Hippo. Inca start Leo’s.

380 (3) – The Hague settler->settler. I’m going to trade Monotheism around to try to get something to switch the Great Lib to.
Trade Mono to the Inca for Feud, 69 gold, and 4 gpt. It appears our rep is shot from something we did to the Portuguese. I can’t get Invention from anyone. I switch the GL to Sun Tzu’s, due in 11. We’ve still got 11 turns to get Invention (I’d much rather have Leo’s than Sun Tzu’s, especially on a ‘pelago map).

We can either get 49 gold and 17 gpt from Hannibal for Mono, or Iron for Mono and Furs. We’re not ready for a war yet, anyway, so I take the money.

Kill the bowman by Eindhoven. Raise sci to 50%, Theo due in 18, +2 gpt.

IBT – A Babylonian spear and warrior appear to the SW of the Eindhoven island.
Our palace gets a freshly cut lawn.

390 (4) – Maastricht lib->barracks. Rush a barracks in Eindhoven.

IBT – A longbow appears from Izibia. Babylon starts Leo’s.

400 (5) – Groningen settler->barracks. Eindhoven barracks->swiss merc (if we don’t want to start our GA, this can be switched, but I think this is a good time for it). Iron Delft worker->worker.

Upgrade the sword in Eindhoven.

IBT – We renew our Incense deal with the Inca, but instead of us giving 2 gpt, we give 25 gold. Carthage starts Leo’s.

410 (6) – There’s a longbow to the south, and a warrior to the west of Eindhoven, but I’ve only got one MDI to attack with. We’d definitely lose the city if I don’t do anything, so I attack the longbow, and get a promotion. We’ll lose the city next turn, but can easily recapture it. I also move one worker to hopefully trick the warrior into capturing that, instead of taking the city…meh, worth a try.

IBT – The AI’s too smart for the trick, and captures Eindhoven and 6 gold. The Portuguese help out by attacking a spear, but die. Middelburg riots…oops.

420 (7) – Retake Eindhoven.

IBT – Inca complete Sun Tzu’s in Cuzco…Babylon starts Leo’s.

430 (8) – Kill the Babylonian spear.

Hmm, we could get Invention from Babylon for peace if we also gave them 150 gold and 42 gpt. I want to take Izibia, but I REALLY don’t want to waste all those shields. There is a chance one of the other civs still beat us to Leo’s, but I think we’ll make it (Carthage’s “prebuild” was just started, Babylon’s in a war with us, and then there’s the Inca…they’re probably the closest to getting Leo’s, but they did just complete a wonder, so they probably just started a new pre-build, too).

We would have 6 turns to complete Leo’s, and considering we have a lot of swords to upgrade, it could be quite helpful.

I thought that we had some MA's in the war vs. babylon. Your deals don't indicate that our rep is not shot so I'd rather not burn it if we don't have to.

No one else will offer invention?

We had a MA with Portugal, but it's run out.

We apparently did something to Portugal. Not sure what. Perhaps when Babylon declared war on us it broke a trade deal? I forget where Portugal is located, but if they're north of Babylon, that's probably what happened.

No one else is willing to trade anything for Invention.

Anyone else want to suggest something?

If not, I think I'm going to take the trade. We'd be wasting around 450 shields if we don't get Invention this turn.

Yea, yea, I know. Hold your horses. ;) Playing now (and I'll be making that trade, btw).

430 (8) cont. – Make peace with Babylon and get Invention for 150 gold and 42 gpt.

Switch Amsterdam to Leo’s. Start on Theology @ 10%, 42 turns. :(

We have iron again, now, at least.

IBT – Carthage starts Leo’s.

440 (9) – I just realized Portugal’s down to their last city! It’s located on the same island as Eindhoven.

Found Leiden -> warrior.

IBT – The Babylonians destroy the Portuguese.

450 (10) – Middelburg harbor->worker. Found Den Helder ->worker.

We haven’t had our GA yet, right? If not, I suggest we build some swiss mercs and maybe declare on the Iroquois (still in AA), possibly capture a few cities. Now would be a great time for a GA, I’d say.

4 turns left on Leo's.

All our territory just barely fit on one screen...

...And it seems I completely forgot about Igor's picture. Well, 2 of the 3 cities I settled were in Igor's positions anyway...

lurker's comment: wow, I feel jealous of Carthage, they have really given Arnhem the deluxe Deity AI Spa City Treatment(Aqueduct,Temple).
